Popular cinematographer Priyan passes away at his residence in Chennai

Eminent cinematographer Priyan, aged 55, passed away late last evening at his residence in Chennai after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest. Priyan is popular for his works on films like Saamy, Arul, Thenali, Singam franchise and Jilla among many other films. Priyan is survived by wife Kalyani and two daughters Priya Vishwa and Srimathi. The ace cameraman breathed his last at 3:30 PM at his residence in Chennai after having suffered a heart attack, reports reveal. Priyan started his career as a camera assistant to Balaji and later joining Balu Mahendra as an assistant.

Priyan made his debut as cinematographer with 1995 Tamil film Thotta Chinungi which starred Karthik, Raghuvaran, Revathi, Devayani and Nagendra Prasad. Priyan later went on to work on films like Saamy, Arul, Thenali, Singam franchise and Jilla. Priyan is a very popular personality among film circles in Tamil cinema and a very grounded man. The Tamil film industry was in a state of shock on learning about his passing away and expressed condolences. Priyan’s body was taken to his native place on Thursday and last rites will be performed Friday at 3 pm.
