A.R. Rahman wins Best Music Direction for Kaatru Veliyidai!

This time, Regional cinema wins big at the recently held, 65th National Film Awards. From Bollywood to regional films, as we all know the 65th National Film Awards honours best films in India. Shekhar Kapur, the chairperson of the central jury panel for the 65th National Film Awards, started the winners’ announcement by appreciating regional cinema.

“I didn’t know such great films were being made in regional cinema,” said Shekhar Kapur as started announcing the winners of the awards. Announcing special mention awards, he said, “special mention award for Malayalam film Take Off and performance by actress Parvathy.”

A R Rahman has won two National awards- Best Music Direction for Kaatru Veliyidai and Best Background Score for Mom. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the Tamil film featured Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. The plot of the film revolved around a prisoner-of-war, who hold on to memories of his lover to help him make his way back home.

Talking about other wins, Malayalam film Take Off received special mention while Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyumm won Best Malayalam regional film award. Kannada film Hebettu Ramakka and Telugu film Ghazi won the Best Regional Film awards.

Talking about Bollywood, which has been sidelined at the awards– Amit V Masurkar’s Newton has won the Best Hindi language film. Pankaj Tripathi, who was lauded for his performance in the same film, receives a special mention at the 65th National Film Awards.
