Rajinikanth condemns violence against men in uniform during the IPL protests

The legendary Rajinikanth is undoubtedly one of the most revered and celebrated names in Indian cinema today. Fondly addressed as ‘Thalaivaa’, the living legend has established himself as a source of inspiration for fans thanks to his magnetic personality, stylish onscreen image and of course that humble nature. Moreover, he has earned the respect of fans as he is a self-made superstar in the truest sense.

Now, he is in the news for an unexpected reason. As it so happens, yesterday, a group of people attacked a police officer while objecting to the CSK-KKR IPL match in Chennai. And, believe it or not, a clip of this incident caught the star’s attention. Commenting on this, he strongly condemned the violence and asked for stricter laws to punish those who assault men in uniform.

“The height of violence is the attack on uniformed policemen. If this culture of violence is not eliminated immediately, it will lead to great danger to our country. We should put in place stricter laws to severely punish those who attack our policemen,” added the star.

Incidentally, noted actor-director Seeman too can be seen arguing with a cop in the clip.

In case you did not know, several groups objected to IPL in Chennai owing to the Cauvery situation, In fact, earlier, Rajini himself had made it clear that there was no need to have IPL matches in Chennai because of the prevailing mood and called the thought of organising matches ‘embarrassing’.

On the work front, Rajini currently has 2.0 and Kaala in his kitty. 2.0 is a sci-fi thriller and has been directed by noted filmmaker Shankar. It is a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran and will see Rajini reprise his Chitti character from the original. It also features Brit beauty/noted actor Amy Jackson and Bollywood’s favourite ‘Khiladi’ Akshay Kumar in the lead. As far as Kaala is concerned, it is a crime-drama and has been directed by Pa Ranjith. In it, Rajini will be seen essaying the role of a deadly gangster and redefining the meaning of onscreen style.
