According to a leading daily, Rajinikanth is likely to launch his own political party on his birthday and add a new dimension to his career. Talking about this, a source said ‘Thalaiva’ has a centrist ideology as he wants to strike a chord with people from all walks of life. The source also added that the star wants to preserve all his energy for the Tamil Nadu state elections given the current political situation.
“Rajini would form a separate party. He will not join any other party, including the BJP. Being spiritual, Rajini cannot be a Leftist. Not being a hardliner, he cannot be a Rightist too. He will be a centrist as that alone will attract all sections of society,” said the source.
Commenting on the star’s political game plan, a noted writer said that he is likely to stay away from the state’s caste-based politics. He added that films like ‘Kabali’—which had a Dalit-centric theme— do not reflect his political opinions.
“People like his subaltern style and identity. In movies, Rajini is just playing the roles that his directors give him. Ranjith is a known Dalit activist and his movies are bound to have undertones of Dalit resurgence. ‘Kabali’ was a reaction to the 2012 Dharmapuri caste clashes. They do not reflect Rajini’s political thoughts or plans,” added the writer.
Well, this is a developing situation and it will be worth watching what happens next. On the work front, Rajini currently has ‘Kaala’ and ‘2.0’ in his kitty. Both films are likely to hit screens in 2018.
