Karthik Subbaraj’s latest directorial, Mercury, has been receiving huge appreciation from all over after the film released last Friday. Mercury is a horror thriller and stars Prabhu Deva in the lead role and the film is a silent one since it has no dialogues in it. Mercury is the first film, after Pushpaka Vimanam, to be without dialogues in it. Mercury is being well appreciated by everyone including critics and has been receiving rave reviews. And filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is a happy man after superstar Rajinikanth met the cast and crew of the film. Rajinikanth is said to have been impressed highly impressed with the film. Rajinikanth appreciated Karthik Subbaraj for choosing a different path of storytelling. The cast and crew of Mercury were invited to Rajinikanth’s residence in Chennai for a casual meet after the superstar watched the film in a special screening. Coincidentally, Karthik Subbaraj will next direct Rajinikanth and the film is yet to be titled.
The film is said to be a silent thriller and will hardly any dialogues, making one of the most unique films in South Indian cinema. Mercury has no dialogues and hence, this is something the audience will see Prabhudheva doing for the first time.
In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Pinkvilla, we asked Karthik Subbaraj why did he cast Prabhudheva in the lead role, he said, “This character is sort of unique. I didn’t have anybody in mind while writing it. But I needed someone whose casting itself sounds unique and that’s when I thought why not cast Prabhudheva sir because he has not done anything this sort before.“
