The iconic Rajinikanth is arguably one of the most decorated and celebrated names in Indian cinema today. Fondly referred to as ‘Thalaivaa’, the living legend is regarded as a source of inspiration by fans thanks to his charismatic personality, stylish onscreen image and of course, his down-to-earth nature. Moreover, he has earned the respect of fans as he is a self-made fan in the truest sense.
Now, there is some terrific news for his well-wishers. In an awesome development, his eagerly-awaited ‘2.0’ has broken a record previously held by Prabhas’ magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2’ even before hitting screens. As it so happens, the Kerala theatrical rights of ‘2.0’ have been acquired by a leading firm for a whopping sum of INR 16.5 crore. And, it goes without saying that this a record for a non-Malayalam film. The Kerala distribution rights of ‘Baahubali 2’ were acquired for INR 10.5 crore and was the previous highest. Well, we are happy for the ‘2.0’ team and hope that the film turns out to be a commercial success.
In case you did not know, ‘2.0’ is touted to be a sci-fi thriller and has been directed by Shankar. A sequel to the 2010 release ‘Endhiran’, it is slated to hit screens this April and will see Rajini reprise his Chitti character from the first part. Interestingly, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar will be entering Kollywood with this one. He plays the antagonist and will be seen in a shocking avatar in ‘2.0’. At the film’s audio launch, he had said that the Hindi film industry can learn a lot from its Tamil counterpart.
On a related note, this is a busy time for Rajinikanth. Besides ‘2.0’, he also has ‘Kaala’ in his kitty. The film is a Pa Ranjith directorial and will see Rajini essay the role of a gangster. It will hit screens after ‘2.0’.
