Superstar Rajinikanth announced that he will be entering politics and will soon float a party of his own, and he did on the last day of 2017 much to the joy of the fans. Rajini said that he will contest from all the constituencies and his efforts will be to being in a change in politics in Tamil Nadu. Rajinikanth on Tuesday said honest and secular politics is “spiritual politics” and Tamil Nadu, where he wants to bring about major changes, was the land of several revolutions.
“I will be beginning my own party and will be contesting in the upcoming State Elections. We will independently stand in all 234 Constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Before the state election, we will discuss what we can do, and what we cannot do. If we don’t do what we promise, We will resign within 3 years. We will be running spiritual politics. In the past one year, Tamil Nadu politics has come down to a miserable state. People from the other states are frowning upon us. Even after all this, If I am going to stay quiet, my conscience will prick me to the day I die. This is the state and you are the people who are the reason I am living today,” Rajinikanth had said during his announcement.
After Rajinikanth said he will float a new party and pursue “spiritual politics”, many have commented that he was being fronted by the Bharatiya Janata Party and that “spiritual politics” was nothing but rebranded Hindutva. At a meeting with journalists, he said many revolutions have started in Tamil Nadu including Mahatma Gandhi’s decision to wear only dhoti and a shawl at Madurai in 1921.
The actor declined to comment on the name of his proposed party, saying he himself does not know. The Tamil film icon, who was once a bus conductor, said he had worked as a proofreader too for two months in a monthly magazine. Meanwhile, sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dinakaran told reporters here that spirituality was an individual’s choice and bringing that into politics would lead to wrong results. Rajinikanth’s friends and colleagues have welcomed his decision to enter politics which includes Kamal Haasan who too has announced his plans to enter politics.
