Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji recently attended Indian Film Festival of Melbourne as a chief guest. At the film festival, Rani won the Best actress award for her performance in Hichki and the Excellence in Cinema awards as well. During the event, Rani spoke about her acting career at length. She also spoke about how Vishwaroopam actor Kamal Haasan was an inspiration for her on the sets of ‘Hey Ram’. Rani Mukerji shared how the experience changed her perception of acting. Interestingly, Kamal once asked her to remove all the makeup during the shoot and that left her stunned.
The actress spoke highly of her Hey Ram co-star Kamal Haasan who made her comfortable in her own skin. “For me, Hey Ram was a turning point. I went to the set and Kamal Haasan told me to wash off my make up. So I went back to my room, dabbed my face and came back. Kamal sir asked me to go back again and actually wash my face. I then removed all my makeup and for the first time, I felt confident. Back then, heroines were expected to put a lot of makeup and that was the normal. But he changed me. I think an artist should be able to forget about their looks, hair and weight. Rather the focus should be on their act on screen. That’s when you truly evolve,” said Rani.
It’s indeed an interesting revelation and it’s so great to know that how actors in the past were worried more about acting than looks.
On the work front, Rani was last seen in Hichki in which she essaying the role of a woman with Tourette syndrome. On the other hand, Kamal Haasan was last seen in Vishwaroopam 2. The film opened to a mixed response and went on to earn decent at the Box Office.
