Actor Chiyaan Vikram will next be seen in Saamy Square, a sequel to his 2003 release Saamy that had the mass star as a fearless cop. Directed by Hari, Saamy Square will star Keerthy Suresh in an important role and the shooting of the film has been in progress at various locations in Tamil Nadu. According to reports, about 80% of the film has been shot and the rest of the portions mostly include songs and couple of action episodes. The shooting of the film has been halted because of the ongoing strike in the film industry protesting the high VPF by Digital Service Providers (DSP) and the high entertainment tax by the government.
The makers are hoping to wrap up the remaining portions of the film after the strike ends in the film industry. Produced by Thameens Films, Saamy Square will have actors Bobby Simha, John Vijay, Prabhu and Soori in supporting roles. Devi Sri Prasad has been roped in for the film to render the music. The makers are yet to confirm the release date of the film which is expected to be announced after the shoot resumes post the strike ends in the industry.
The sequel is being made after 14 years of the release of the original Saamy which was a super hit film in the career of Vikram and is one of the milestones in the actor’s career. The official launch of the film happened in Chennai few months ago with the cast and crew of the film which includes Vikram, Keerthy Suresh and director Hari. Vikram will return as the foul-mouthed, twirled moustache sporting police officer in Saamy Square, a role which made him one of biggest stars in the South Indian industry. Saamy was also remade in Telugu as Lakshmi Narsimha with Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role.
