The charming Samantha Akkineni is arguably one of the most popular actresses in T-town today. And, she is currently going through a lovely phase in life. This October, she tied the knot with longtime friend/actor Naga Chaitanya and added a new dimension to her life. The Hindu wedding took place on October 6, 2017 and proved to be a star-studded affair. This was followed by a Christian wedding the very next day. Similarly, on the professional front, things have been pretty good for the beautiful lady. Just days after her wedding, she was seen playing the role of a ghost in ‘Raju Gari Gadhi 2’ and impressed us with her performance. Also featuring the legendary Nagarjuna in the lead, it was a horror-comedy and did well at the ticket window. Talking about the film, she had said that her character in ‘Raju Gari Gadhi 2’ highlighted the problems faced by victims of the infamous Suchi leaks scandal.
“Amrutha’s character is a message to each and every person who opened the ‘Suchi Leaks’ videos, laughed at those videos and circulated them. Whenever Amrutha cries in the film, I did not need glycerine for I could understand the pain of the parents, families and well-wishers of the women in those videos. I played the role of Amrutha for all the women victimized in such a manner,” she had told a leading daily.
Shortly after the release of ‘Raju Gari Gadhi 2’, she hit the jackpot again when ‘Mersal’ did exceptionally well at the box office and earned rave reviews along the way. Directed by Atlee, it was an action-drama and saw her share screen space with superstar Vijay. Interestingly, upon release, it bit the centre on controversy because of a GST joke but that did not stop its successful run at the BO. Talking about the film, Sam had praised Atlee and called him a gifted filmmaker.
“He has a great command over his craft, and it’s very endearing to see that kind of positivity and confidence. I believe that’s also a reason why someone as experienced as Vijay, who has worked with the biggest of names in the industry, came back to Atlee for a second time (after Theri) because there’s some magic in this man. I think he’s going to strike gold again in his own style. Mersal is like a complete showreel for Vijay,” Sam had told a leading website.
Now, there is more good news for Sam’s well-wishers. According to a leading portal, Samantha will be playing the female lead in the Tamil remake of the Kannada hit ‘U Turn’. Confirming this, a source said that the remake will go on the floors in January 2018 and will be wrapped up in three schedules
“The pre-production work has been going on for the last few months. The principal shooting will commence from the third week of January next year. As of now, the remake is only happening in Tamil. The makers are yet to take a call on to shoot the film simultaneously in Telugu. The film will be wrapped up in three schedules,” added the source.
Interestingly, not too long ago, it was rumoured that Nithya Menen had replaced Sam… However, according to the source, that was just a rumour and the ‘OK Kanmani’ star was not even considered for the film.
“Sam has been on board from the beginning. In fact, it was her idea to remake the project after she was mighty impressed with the film. She had watched the film in a special screening in Bengaluru last year. Nithya was never in the picture,” added the source.
Well, this is some good news and could create quite a buzz amongst fans. In case you did not know, ‘U Turn’ featured Shraddha Srinath in the lead and revolved around a journalist who explored some strange road accidents.
On a related note, Samantha currently has several big films in her kitty including ‘Rangasthalam’ and ‘Mahanati’. ‘Rangasthalam’ is a romantic drama and has been directed by Sukumar. In it, she will be seen opposite Ram Charan. As far as ‘Mahanati’ is concerned, it is based on the life of yesteryear star Savitri and will see Sam essay the role of a journalist.
