Santosh Narayanan on composing music for Mercury: It was a great learning experience

Tamil star Prabhudheva will soon be seen in the highly ambitious Mercury. And, as expected, this silent-thriller has created quite a buzz amongst his fans. Directed by upcoming director Karthik Subbaraj, it will feature the ABCD actor in a new avatar and be a different experience for the movie goer. Its music is bound to be an integral part of the plot. While speaking about composing music for Mercury, music composer Santosh Narayanan said that it was challenging experience for him.

“Music is the most essential part of any film, but when it comes to Mercury it actually became a medium of communication. Mercury being a silent film needed a strong background score that could give you chills down the spine,” he added.

He added that as Mercury is a silent film, he had to be very careful about minute details such as tonality and the story’s atmosphere.

“Since there are no dialogues in the film I had to be careful about every minute detail like tonality, atmosphere and the story. I wanted to justify the story with my music. It was a great learning experience as Karthik and I used to have detailed conversations about it. A movie like Mercury is a once in a generation opportunity for me. It doesn’t come easily to a music director and I am privileged to have got this opportunity,” added Santosh.

We hope that his music works wonders for Mercury and adds a new dimension it. Interestingly, a few ago, Karthik Subbraj had said Mercury helped him evolve as a storyteller.

“The cast has been extremely supportive on this journey. Besides being one of the most ambitious projects I have worked on, Mercury has also helped me enhance my skills as a director,” he had added.

If all goes as planned, Mercury will be released on April 13, 2018.
