A short while ago, rumours/reports of Shah Rukh Khan producing the recent Tamil blockbuster ‘Vikram Vedha’ in Hindi began doing the rounds. And, as expected, this created a buzz amongst fans. Now, the producers of the original have responded to the reports and said that have not sold the remake rights to anyone yet and are keen to produce the Hindi version themselves. They went on to add that they will be making a formal announcement pretty soon.
“We have not sold the remake rights of VikramVedha in any language. We have plans of producing it ourselves. Official announcement soon. Tx,” added the producers.
In case you did not know, ‘Vikram Vedha’ is a crime-thriller and is based on the stories of Vikram-Betaal. Directed by Pushkar-Gayathri, it features Madhavan in the role of a cop while Vijay Sethupathi essays the role of a cruel gangster. Released in July, it opened to a thunderous response at the box office and earned rave reviews along the way.
Interestingly, recently, it was reported that Sudeep might star in its Kannada remake. Moreover, during an exclusive interaction with Pinkvilla South, Rana Daggubati had confirmed that he was approached for the Telugu remake of ‘Vikram Vedha’.
“I saw Vikram Vedha recently and really liked the film. Yes, we were approached for the Telugu remake. The world that Vikram Vedha is set in is not something that we have here in Hyderabad. We don’t have the ports, gangsters, mafia, smuggling and things like that,” he had said.
So, do you think that ‘Vijram Vedha’ has the potential to work in other languages as well? Comments, please!
