Actor Vijay and his latest release ‘Mersal’ has been the point of discussion across the nation regarding the GST scene in the film. The scene has Vijay questioning about GST on medicines and the medical services provided in India comparing it to Singapore. This didn’t quite go down well with few BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu which initiated the debate. H.Raja lashed out at the film and demanded that the scene be removed from the film since it is against the government. However, no cuts or mutes were done in the film despite so much pressure. Many political leaders too have come in support of the film and Vijay, and the latest one to join is Bollywood veteran actor and politician Shatrugan Sinha.

Why are we so defensive about a perfectly legitimate issue that has been raised in the Tamil film regarding healthcare and the GST? As entertainers and actors with powerful voices we have a certain duty towards the public to make them aware of socio-political issues,” Indian express quoted Shatrugan Sinha as saying. Shatrugan makes a valid point here saying that there is no need to take these things very seriously.

The veteran Bollywood actor also asks a valid question. “Why is it such a crime if Vijay who is a very powerful Tamil actor, reminds us that the poor in our country desperately need healthcare?” asks Shatrugan who is also a politician. Lashing out at people who created the situation against Mersal, Shatrugan Sinha says, “Has anyone heard the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) or any of the top leaders commenting on the issue? It is only some elements in our party who are eager to prove that they are more loyal than the others. They are the ones jumping in to attack this perfectly harmless and very significant point raised in the film. Instead of attacking Vijay and questioning his credentials we should all take his words seriously and work towards improving healthcare in our country.
