The lovely Nayanthara is going through a terrific phase on the professional front these days. Last month, she tasted success with the hard-hitting ‘Aramm’ which opened to a good response at the box office while receiving good reviews along the way. In it, she played the role of an IAS officer and delivered a top-notch performance. Praising the film, Sivakarthikeyan had said that did a nice job of touching upon a relevant issue in the most hard-hitting way possible.
“There is no entertainment quotient in Nayanthara’s Aramm and the makers have made a bold decision of straight away jumping into the strong content. It is a wonderful and touching film which is a must watch for one and all as it touches upon important and essential issues and engages audiences throughout,” he had said.
Now, there is more good news for ‘Thalaivi’ fans. In an exciting development, her latest release ‘Velaikkaran’—which hit screens on December 22—has fared pretty well at the ticket window in week one and crossed the coveted Rs 50 crore mark at the TN box office. The film collected Rs 30 crore over the first four days and added another 20 in the following days. The positive reviews received by the Mohan Raja directorial seem to have given a boost to its commercial prospects. ‘Velaikkaran’ needs to collect close Rs 70 crore at the box office in order to break even. It will be worth watching whether it is able to maintain its hold over the box office in the days to come.
In case you did not know, ‘Velaikkaran’ is an action-thriller and deals with the food adulteration issue. Besides Nayanthara, it features Sivakarthikeyan and Mollywood star Fahadh in the lead. Talking about working with Nayan, SK had said that she is a perfectionist and that is responsible for her success.
“It is a happy moment to act with Nayanthara. I first saw her at the shooting spot of Aegan. Myself and Arunraja were supposed to come in brief roles in the film, and at that time, we saw her. Then, it was Ethir Neechal, where she made an appearance for a song. After that, only at the shooting spot of Velaikkaran, I saw her. The one thing that hasn’t changed at all in all these three film shooting spots, is her punctuality and perfection. That is why, I feel, that she has established a market for herself,” he had added.
Similarly, talking about her role in ‘Velaikkaran’, Mohan Raja had said that it does full justice to her ‘Lady Superstar’ image.
“I think an artiste should get into the skin of the character he/she is playing and Nayanthara does it brilliantly. She attends workshops for her films and I am not sure how many others do it. Her experience shows in every scene she performs and our challenge now is to make this film bigger and better than Thani Oruvan. I’ve to do justice to her image,” he had told a leading daily.
With ‘Velaikkaran’ in theatres, Nayan will now turn her attention to her next big release ‘Jai Simha’ which hits screens in January. In it, she will be seen alongside Balakrishna. Besides this, she also has ‘Immaikkaa Nodigal’ and ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ in her kitty. ‘Immaikkaa Nodigal’ is a thriller and has been directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu. In it, she will be seen alongside Anurag Kashyap an Atharvaa. As far as ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ is concerned, it is a historical drama and features Chiranjeevi in the titular role. The supporting cast also features names like Vijay Sethupathi and Amitabh Bachchan.
As far as SK is concerned, he currently has a film with Samantha Akkineni in his kitty.
