According to emerging reports, ‘Velaikkaran’ has earned a collection of approximately INR 9.0 crores on day 1 and the collections in Chennai city alone stand at approximate INR 0.89 crores. Trade savants are predicting that the numbers will go up over the weekend since has been getting a positive word of mouth from audiences and the occupancy in cinema halls in increasing gradually for each show.

With Nayanthara in the cast, expectations were bound to go high on ‘Velaikkaran’ and it would fair enough to say that the film has lived up to the expectations. Lead actor Sivakarthikeyan had said that after working on the film, he feels more responsible and now plans to take steps in his career wisely. “After working in Velaikkaran, I feel more responsible. I’ve worked in a television commercial once. I promise now that I won’t endorse any brands henceforth in my career. There’s an emotional sequence in the story, which has led me to this decision. I’m not at liberty to talk about the scene now. But, it left an indelible mark on me,” Sivakarthikeyan had said. Sivakarthikeyan also added that he has decided not endorse any products and will not appear in any commercials ever. “I won’t endorse any brands & act in ads henceforth. I have to be extra cautious and responsible to my audience. Velaikkaran raised a lot of questions in me.”

Talking about his co-star in Velaikkaran Nayanthara, he said, “I worked with Nayanthara for the first time in Ethir Neechal, where she did a dance number. She worked without taking any remuneration because young talents were involved in the film. She has always been punctual and dedicated. Once she comes on the sets, she will not leave without completing the day’s shoot. It is with this approach she’s able to carve a niche for herself at the box office with women-centric films.”

Velaikkaran also marked the debut of Malayalam top actor Fahadh Faasil in Tamil cinema who would be seen playing the antagonist in the film. Speaking about Fahadh, director Mohan Raja had said recently, “After Thani Oruvan, I wanted to evolve as a better director and for that, I believed I had to come up with an even superior antagonist. So, instead of creating the character and casting the actor, I wanted to rope in an actor who would inspire me to create such an antagonist. With Fahadh on board, I knew I had the best and my challenge was to give him a role that would feed off of his thirst as a performer. It motivated me to create something great and after watching the output, I believe I am on the right track.” Mohan Raja went on to add that working with Fahadh was an awesome experience as he reinforced his belief in how an actor must truly live the characters he essays on the big screen.
