Kamal Hassan and Sridevi were the most celebrated on-screen couples in South Indian Film Industry.The two may have played the roles of lovers in films, but in real like they shared a brother – sister relationship. The actor, opened up about his equation with Sridevi in a Tamil magazine ‘Ananda Vikatan’. He said that they shared a sibling bond rather than like the movies.
“In those days couples were compared to us, that they looked like Sridevi- Kamal. But unfortunately we were hiding the truth so as to not shatter their dream,” he wrote. The crew and other insiders knew about their real life bond, but were asked not to discuss the nature of it with anybody.
“Sridevi en thangachi, (Sridevi was like my younger sister), if you keenly watch our films , we would look like siblings. One could find resemblance of myself in her acting,” he further wrote.
He added that many senior actresses had called him up and cried following the death of the 54 year old icon.
Earlier in his tweets while mourning Sridevi, he wrote, “Have witnessed Sridevi’s life from an adolescent teenager to the magnificent lady she became. Her stardom was well deserved. Many happy moments with her flash through my mind including the last time I met her. Sadma’s lullaby haunts me now. We’ll miss her”.
Starting with Moondru Mudichu, Ulaga Nayagan and Sridevi did 27 films together. Sadma, the Hindi remake of the 1982 movie Moondram Pirai brought countrywide fame for both the stars. Sridevi and Kamal Haasan’s films together have been iconic.
Sridevi passed away last week due to accidental drowning in her hotel bathtub. She was attending her nephew and actor Mohit Marwah’s wedding in Dubai. Kamal Hassan offered his condolences to the Kapoor family in Mumbai and paid a final tribute to his off screen Thangachi.
