According to a leading daily, the Telugu distribution rights of Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ have been acquired by Asian Cinemas for an impressive amount. The company will be responsible for releasing the film in Andhra Pradesh as well as Telangana. While the specifics of the deal are not known, a source has revealed that the distribution rights have been sold for Rs 80 Crore. Well, if this is true, it proves that ‘Thalaiva’ is still one of the most bankable stars in Southern cinema.
Confirming this development, Narayan Das of Asian Cinemas said that the company has indeed acquired the distribution rights of ‘2.0’. However, he did not talk about the money at stake.
“Yes, we bought the rights for the Telugu version of the film and it is releasing in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This is one of the costliest films in India and we are happy that we have bagged the Telugu theatrical distribution rights,” he added.
In case you did not, ‘2.0’ is touted to be a sci-fi thriller and has been directed by S Shankar. A sequel to the 2010 release ‘Enthiran’, it will hit screens in 2018. Besides Rajini, it features Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar. B-town’s ‘Khiladi’ will be seen playing a negative role in what will be the first Tamil film of his celebrated career.
