TFPC President Vishal: Thankful to Dhanush and superstar Rajinikanth for holding the release of Kaala

TFPC President and actor Vishal said that they are thankful to Kaala producer Dhanush and superstar Rajinikanth for holding the release of their film which helped them sail through the strike and make successful negotiations.

After 30 days of no shootings and 47 days since no new release, the strike in the Tamil film industry was finally called off after successful negotiations between all the parties involved. The TFPC office bearers, including President Vishal, held a meeting on which film to be released first and announced that Karthik Subbaraj directorial Mercury will hit the screens on April 20th, 2018 in Tamil Nadu. Besides Mercury, there are quite a few other big releases like Rajinikanth’s Kaala and Kamal Haasan’s Viswaroopam 2 which have been in the pipeline. While there was no confirmation, before the strike started, on the release date of Kamal Haasan’s Viswaroopam 2, Rajinikanth starrer Kaala was announced that it would be released on April 27th, 2018 which had to be deferred due to the strike. And since the strike is called off now, a decision is yet to be taken cohesively on when Kaala and Viswaroopam 2 could be released.

TFPC President and actor Vishal said that they are thankful to Kaala producer Dhanush and superstar Rajinikanth for holding the release of their film which helped them sail through the strike and make successful negotiations. “We at Tamil Film Producer Council are really thankful to Wunderbar Films Dhanush, Superstar Rajinikanth and Lyca Productions for being so much supportive over holding the release of Kaala. Especially, it’s the need of hour to thank Karthik Subbaraj and the producers of Mercury. If they had thought of releasing it, they could have easily proceeded for the movie has been released in many other regional places,” said Vishal after the TFPC meeting.

Speaking about release of other movies, Vishal said that they are setting up a committee which will work on the new release dates of all the pending films. “We are setting up the RELEASE REGULARITY COMMITTEE, which will comprise of Producers, Distributors, FEFSI office bearers, who will be regularizing the release dates. There are around 14 big festive occasions, usually that will have the big movies releasing. So the producers of these big movie can book the release dates till March 31, 2019 now itself. Based on this, there will be scheduling of low and medium budget movies. The first release scheduled from this week would be Friday along with which couple of small budget movies will happen,” Vishal added further.
