Thalapathy Vijay’s Mersal becomes first Tamil film to follow Baahubali at China Box Office

2017’s biggest entertainer Mersal, starring Vijay SJ Suryah, Samantha and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles is all set to release in China. The blockbuster film of 2017 that went on to earn Rs 200 crore at the Box Office, becomes the first Tamil film to release in China. Mersal has added one more feather to its cap long after the release of the film. Mersal has joined the list of Indian films like Baahubali and Dangal that have released in China. Mersal’s theatrical rights have been purchased by China’s HGC Entertainment and will be dubbed into Mandarin. The film will be released later this year or early 2019. The makers are yet to confirm the release date of the film.

Directed by Atlee, Mersal told the tale of a man who decides to solve a healthcare threat and in the process discovers the reason behind his father’s death. The film starred Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Vadivelu and S. J. Suryah in lead roles. After the release of the film, it caught itself in a controversy when it featured dialogues criticising GST and demonetization. Despite this, the film went on perform extremely well at the box office and even gained appreciation from Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan

‘Mersal’ was complete showreel for our ‘Thalapathy’. In it, he played a triple role and did full justice to each one of them. Everything about his act—right from his chemistry with his heroines to his body language—was perfect and made the film even more enjoyable. An action-drama, it did well at the box office despite running into trouble with the BJP because of a GST joke. The film’s supporting cast included names such as Sathyaraj and SJ Suryah.

Directed by Atlee the film was produced by N Ramasamy, Hema Rukmani, R Mahendran and H Murali under the banner Thenandal Studio Limited. AR Rahman composed music for the film.
