The charismatic and much revered Rajinikanth is undoubtedly the most popular name in Tamil cinema today. During his highly eventful association with Kollywood ,‘Thalaiva’—as movie buffs like to call him—has won the love of moviegoers thanks to his refined personality, gripping performances and simple nature. Furthermore, he has established himself as a cult figure thanks to his onscreen mannerisms and punch dialogues. Perhaps that is why his eagerly-awaited ‘2.0’ has created quite a buzz amongst casual fans and movie buffs alike. Directed by Shankar, it is a sequel to 2010 blockbuster ‘Enthiran’ and will see Rajini reprise his popular Chitti character from the first part. A sci-fi thriller, it was originally scheduled to hit screens this Deepavali but got delayed to January 2018 before being pushed back further to April 2018.
As it so happens, recently, it was reported that these delays were caused because of a Hollywood VFX studio and the makers planning to sue that studio for the inconvenience caused. Now, it seems that the original report was incorrect. According to a leading website, Lyca has a wonderful working relationship with the VFX studio and there is no question of any legal action being taken. Confirming the same, a source said that the VFX studio is working 24×7 to ensure that ‘2.0’ hits screens as planned. The source added that ‘2.0’ is Asia’s ‘most prominent’ project and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that everything turns out to be fine.
“It’s true that we are facing significant challenges on the VFX front. But, the VFX company is not solely responsible for the delay. You have to understand that 2.0 is Asia’s most prominent project and we have to make sure we deliver a world-class film. In fact, the VFX studio in question is very much part of the movie, and working round the clock to meet our deadline. Their groups of VFX supervisors are actively working in tandem with Shankar’s directorial team to ensure everything is in place. And, we’re not planning any legal action at all. There’s no question of it when we have an excellent understanding between us,” added the source.
The source also added that makers postponed the release from January to April as they want to ensure that ‘2.0’ proves to be a complete visual delight for the fans.
“The number of VFX shots in 2.0 will be unlike any Indian film. While handling such a massive quantity, some hiccups are bound to occur. However, we are very determined that we should not compromise on the quality because of time constraint. That’s the main reason for postponing the film from January to April 2018,” added the source.
Well, we wish the team good luck and hope that ‘2.0’ fares well at the box office. Interestingly, ‘2.0’ also features Akshay Kumar in the lead. The Bollywood star will be playing a negative role in what is the first Tamil film of his illustrious career. At the film’s audio launch—which was held sometime ago, he had said that Bollywood has a lot to learn from Kollywood.
“I have done 130 films (in Bollywood). ‘2.0′ was my 131st film. I can only say that during the making of those 130 films, I got to learn little from every film, but I was learning throughout the shooting of this film. There’s a lot that we have to learn from South because the way they work, we have to understand a lot now. They work in unity and respect each other’s talent, we have to learn that,” he had added.
On a related note, this is a busy time for Rajini. Besides ‘2.0’, he also has ‘Kaala’ in his kitty. The film is a crime-thriller and has been directed by ‘Kabali’ filmmaker Pa Ranjith. In it, ‘Thalaiva’ will be seen playing the role of a gangster and sporting a new look.
Besides Rajinikanth, it also features Huma Qureshi and Nana Patekar in the lead. Sometime ago, Huma had said that Rajini is a humble individual and a terrific person to work with. ‘Kaala’ has been produced by actor Dhanush and will hit screens only after Shankar’s magnum opus.
