Did Vijay disrespect the Tamil anthem during the Nadigar Sangam protest against Cauvery? Here’s what we know

The Tamil Film Actors’ Association, Nadigar Sangam, gathered on Sunday for a silent protest against the Cauvery Water Management Board urging the government to form a board and resolve the water issues between the two South Indian states. Top actors like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and Vijay among many others gathered in the silent protest showing their support to the cause. Before the actors the sat down for the protest, the Tamil anthem, Tamizh Thaai Vaazhthu, was sung by the people present there including the actors taking part in the protest. However, a video on social media has been going viral which shows that actor Vijay was seated while the rest were singing the Tamil anthem showing their respect to their motherland. Actor Vijay was being slammed by netizens for not standing up while the Tamil anthem was being sung by others even when senior actors like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth were standing too.

But, producer and popular critic Dhananjayan Govind has opened about this issue and said that the video is a fabricated one and is being circulated by people who want to malign the actor’s image. In his tweet, Dhananjayan said that Vijay was indeed standing along with all of them and singing the anthem. “Seen a cooked up video posted in various groups showing @actorvijay sir sitting while the #TamizhThaaiVaazhthu was sung by #Nasser sir & others yesterday. Totally fabricated video as he stood along with us & sang to inaugurate the silent protest was the fact/truth,” wrote Dhananjayan on his Twitter page.

Tamil film actors, Nadigar Sangham on Sunday made a silent protest urging the central government to form a Management Board for the Cauvery river which has been long pending.
