There were tons of speculations around Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s 61st film which is being directed by Atlee. The film, being referred to as Vijay 61 currently, completed its first leg of shooting in Jaisalmer and the unit will start the next schedule in Chennai in a few weeks.

Director Atlee spoke with media recently and provided a few details about the film, but not much. Musical maestro AR Rahman, who is composing the tunes for the film, made an announcement on social media that the film will release on Diwali 2017 and the first look will be out on June 22nd, 2017.

The buzz in the industry is that this film will be titled Moondru Mugam. Moondru Mugam is a film released in 1982 that starred Super Star Rajinikanth. Rajinikanth  played triple roles in the film as Alex Pandian, Arun and John. These rumours have led to speculations that Vijay will be playing triple roles in Atlee’s film.

Atlee-Vijay Film

Tamil cinema seems to be in the trend of using tiles of yesteryear classics or character names from those hits. Actor Karthi used the title Alex Pandian which is a character from Moondru Mugam. Lawrence has used the title Rajadhi Raja, which also is a Rajinikanth film released in 1989.

Going by this trend, the title of Vijay-Atlee film seems to be finalised as Moondru Mugam and Vijay would play a triple role in it.

The film is being produced by N. Ramasamy and the story and screenplay is written by Vijayendra Prasad, who delivered hits like Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The film stars Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, S.J. Suryah and Vadivel playing important roles. The music of the film is being composed by A.R.Rahman.
