Pro-Hindu outfit HMK stages protest against 'Mersal' across Tamil Nadu

Tamil superstar Vijay just issued a statement and thanked his well-wishers/supporters for making his latest release ‘Mersal’ a success at the box office. He went on to thank his colleagues for supporting the film when it faced opposition from various quarters because of a range of reasons.

“Mersal, which released for the festive occasion of Diwali is currently running successfully in the theatres. There were also quite a few oppositions that came up. But, my film industry friends, co-actors, directors, Nadigar Sangam, Producers Council, Political leaders, party representatives, media friends, my fans (nanba), common people, everyone joined together and gave the much-needed support to me and the entire team of Mersal. My heartfelt thanks to all of you for making Mersal, a huge success, and for lending your support against all the odds,” he added.

Well, these are some sweet words and are bound to create a buzz amongst fans.  In case you did not know, ‘Mersal’—which is an action-drama and has been directed by Atlee—rubbed the BJP the wrong way courtesy a scene which makes fun of the GST scheme. Objecting to the joke, a BJP leader has asked for the scene to be cut. Lashing out these demands, actor Vishal had come to the film’s defence and said that any attempts at deleting the scene should be viewed as an attack on freedom of expression.

“Once a film has gone through the censorship and certification process, and has been released, no one else has the right to demand further cuts. We all have the right, and freedom to express what we think and feel,” he had added.

Political stuff aside, this movie is really good. Good family entertainer with social message.

Pathetic movie…..His fans are totally delusional. His last good entertaining movie was probably Thuppaki. He needs to do some good masala movie — not this overstretched crap with multiple roles.

No one pays income tax (<10% of tax payers) and we have so many costs related to infrastructure, healthcare, education, etc. How does government function? Not political, but this is a serious question for the country? Either way Tamilnadu will have atleast 2 new parties one with Rajinikanth, vijay, etc. and the other with Kamal Hasan. All this hoolah for the movie is a step towards political party!

Saw it last weekend. Liked the movie. Was an entertaining movie with a very relevant message esp pertinent to today’s times.

    Good job Kanna 🙂
