Vijay’s Mersal is arguably one of the most eagerly-awaited and talked about films of the year. An Atlee directorial, it has become the talk of the town thanks to its gripping posters and catchy singles. Now, it seems that the curiosity surrounding the film is all set to reach new heights.
According to a leading daily, the makers of the movie have trademarked the title ‘Mersal’. As a result, anyone who uses the word Mersal for commercial purposes will now have to pay royalty. Confirming this, a source said that this is the first time that such a thing is being done for a Tamil film.
“Previously, in Kollywood, a production house had trademarked their name, but this is the first time, a title is being trademarked here. So, if anybody uses the term Mersal for commercial purposes, a part of their revenue should be paid to the team as royalty. For example, if someone decides to come up with a Mersal bubblegum, they will be using our trademark and have to pay us royalty,” added the source.
Interestingly, a few days ago, ‘Mersal’ had become the first South film to get an emoji. As such, Mersal seems to have become a trend setter even before hitting screens.
In case you did not know, ‘Mersal’ is touted to be an action-drama and features Vijay in a triple role. Besides ‘Thalapathy, it also features Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead.
So, are you looking forward to the release of ‘Mersal’? Comments, please!
