The South Indian Artistes Association, yesterday, held a prayer meet for the late Sridevi and paid tribute to the veteran diva who ruled the big screen for several years. . The meet was attended by Nassar and Karthi and turned out to be a sombre event. Those in attendance prayed for the departed soul and remembered her fondly.
Sridevi passed away in Dubai last month and this has left a deep void in the film world. Initial reports suggested that her death was caused by a cardiac arrest. However, subsequent reports clarified that her demise was caused because of accidental drowning. Ever since the news got out, several stars took to Twitter and offered their deepest condolences.
Reacting to her untimely demise, her friend and Tamil star Rajinikanth had said that he had lost a friend.
“I’m shocked and very disturbed. I’ve lost a dear friend and the industry has lost a true legend. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I feel the pain with them #RIPSridev … you will be missed,” he had added.
Her Sadma co-star Kamal Haasan had said that he was heartbroken by her death.
“Have witnessed Sridevi’s life from an adolescent teenager to the magnificent lady she became. Her stardom was well deserved. Many happy moments with her flash through my mind including the last time I met her. Sadma’s lullaby haunts me now. We’ll miss her,” he had said.
Fondly described as the ‘Last Empress’, Sridevi was an important part of South cinema for nearly 5 decades. Her most noteworthy films are Moondram Pirai, Bobbili Puli and 16 Vayathinile to name a few. She also conquered Bollywood and became its first female superstar. The star was last seen in MOM which fared well at the box office and received rave reviews.
