The past few months have been quite eventful for popular Tamil star Vishal. In October, he made his Mollywood debut with the eagerly-awaited ‘Villain’ and added a new dimension to his career. The film was a crime-thriller and saw him essay a negative role with much finesse. Directed by B Unnikrishnan, it also had Mohanlal in the lead and did well at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews. Talking about working with ‘Lalettan’, he had said that it was a surreal experience.
“Face to face with him, the intense dialogues and the off-screen experience, it was all surreal for me. He is an actor who emotes through his eyes, and very accommodating too. I have seen very few superstars who give so much scope for co-artists to perform and outscore. Hats off to him, for his maturity and dedication to the profession,” he had told a leading daily.
After the film’s success, he had said that it worked thanks to its winning script.
“When the story was narrated by Unnikrishnan, I knew it had a winning script. Now it has been proved with its success,” he had added.
However, soon thereafter, he suffered a major setback when his nomination for the RK Nagar bypoll was rejected under controversial circumstances. Shortly after this, he had written an open letter to the people of Tamil Nadu and promised them that he would enter politics soon.
“I am obliged to inform the People of Tamil Nadu that I decided to Contest in R.K.Nagar By-Election on my own and without the influence of any Political Party or any individual whatsoever, but only with pure intentions to Serve the People from the bottom of my heart. The rejection of my nomination paper was totally unethical & unjustified and the events that followed are there for all the People of Tamil Nadu to see and understand that democracy has been buried to the ground.
I thank all the good-hearted people in RK Nagar, across Tamilnadu and across India including the press, the police, the advocates, political leaders, my fans, friends, family and all well-wishers who supported me and stood by me. I will continue to serve the people and fight for democracy and will return to politics in full swing,” he had written.
Now, Vishal’s fans have a reason to rejoice. As it so happens, some stills from his ‘Irumbu Thirai’ are creating a buzz amongst fans and that too for all the right reasons. In them, he can be seen alongside the lovely Samantha Akkineni. And, not surprisingly, the two make a nice pair indeed. Vishal’s raw look gels quite well with her traditional avatar. That’s how you make an impact!

In case you did not know, ‘Irumbu Thirai’ is touted to be an action-thriller and has been directed by PS Mithran. Besides Sam-Vishal, it also features Arjun in the lead. The ‘Action King’ will be playing a negative role here. Recently, the director had revealed that Vishal was interesting in playing the villain but ultimately agreed to play the lead.
“Initially I pitched this story to Vishal expecting him to just produce the film. But after hearing the story, Vishal not just accepted to produce the film but he also wanted to be the villain of the film. But I insisted him to do the lead and I put the story in an army backdrop. Samantha will have a very pivotal role to play and it will definitely be a strong performance,” he had told a leading website.
On a related note, this is a busy time for Vishal as well as Sam. At present, Vishal also has ‘Sandakozhi 2’ in his kitty. As far as Samantha is concerned, she also has ‘Rangasthalam’ in her kitty. It is a Sukumar directorial and will see her share screen space with Ram Charan.
