It is being speculated that Tamil film Vikram Vedha might be remade in Telugu with you and your uncle Venkatesh. Will we see that happening?
I saw Vikram Vedha recently and really liked the film. Yes, we were approached for the Telugu remake. The world that Vikram Vedha is set in is not something that we have here in Hyderabad. We don’t have the ports, gangsters, mafia, smuggling and things like that. These were the things that were happening earlier. The only thing I told the makers was make us understand how the story can be made relatable to the Telugu audience. The moment it becomes a Telugu film, it’s hard for people to connect because Hyderabad doesn’t have a port. Vizag is again a Naval base. So, yes, we were approached for the Telugu remake of Vikram Vedha.
You and Akshay Kumar had collaborated for the Telugu remake of Marathi hit film Poster Boyz. And we haven’t heard much about it lately. Is it on the backburner?
No no. We still have it together. I was unable to cast for this film. The Hindi release just changed the tone of the film. And it’s a genre film that deserves the best cast. Most of the times, if a film fails, it’s not the film but the budget that fails. Even if it is a small budget film, when you set out to do something, you have to do it extremely correctly. We wanted to bring in new faces with Poster Boys and we are working on it right now. So, yeah it is still on.
Prabhas and you share a great bonding. Tell us one thing about him that we don’t know about him.
Prabhas is the most sweetest and simplest person you will ever meet in life. He is not someone who would have the biggest of aspirations, big things and much hype. He is somebody who just loves movies and he will do anything for movies. Look at what he did for Baahubali. An actor like him giving 5-6 years of his life for a film is quite unbelievable. He stood like a pillar for Baahubali. Many a times we all fumbled during the making but he stood behind the film like a pillar. He used to tell Rajamouli on sets – “Darling, yelanti cinema chesthunam thelusa?? International cinema chesthunnam darling (Do you realise the kind of film that we are making? It’s an international film!)“. He was somebody on the sets who was inspiring everyone constantly. And he does all this so simply. He does not put an effort to inspire you and fake it. He genuinely believed in the film.
Despite his success, he still manages to stay grounded, simple and away from all the glare.
He is too simple and grounded all the time. He keeps asking me these questions about people in Bombay because I have spent some time there. You’ll see parties, events, everyone dressed up and Instagram and all of that going on. And Prabhas is like ‘Dude why is everyone wearing suits and taking pictures?‘ (Laughs). All that he wants to be is be a simple actor and keep acting in films.
You and Prabhas are the most eligible bachelors in Tollywood now. When will we see guy guys taking the big step?
I think you should ask him that question. I think he is older than I am actually. Whenever he answers, I will answer that (Laughs).
