The Magadheera-Raabta plagiarism row just took an unexpected turn

Author SP Chary has claimed that ‘Magadheera’ is an out and out copy of his novel ‘Chanderi’.

As we all know, Geetha Arts recently dragged the makers of ‘Raabta’ to court and claimed that they had lifted the film’s plot from their highly successful Telugu film ‘Magadheera’. Needless to say, this created quite a buzz in the industry. Now, the whole situation has taken an unexpected turn.

According to reports, author SP Chary has claimed that ‘Magadheera’ is an out and out copy of his novel ‘Chanderi’. Speaking to a portal, he said that the makers of ‘Magadheera’ lifted the plot from his novel, changing only a few details along the way.

“The story in ‘Chanderi’ is about two lovers jumping into well and committing suicide 400 years ago in Orcha Kingdom of Madhya Pradesh. They reincarnate after 400 years to get married. The villain in ‘Chanderi’ is hero’s own brother but here in ‘Magadheera’ he was heroine’s cousin. Rest of the story is as it was in Chanderi,” he added,

In case you did not know, ‘Magadheera’ was directed by SS Rajamouli and hit screens in 2009. Touted to be a historical romantic drama, it features Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. Upon release, it earned rave reviews and emerged a winner at the ticket window. In fact, before ‘Baahubali’ became a phenomena, it was regarded to be Rajamouli’s biggest hit.

As far as ‘Raabta’ is concerned, it is a Bollywood movie and features Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Shanon in the lead. Directed by Dinesh Vijan, it will hit screens next week.
