Akhil Akkineni: Doing Akhil was my decision and I am solely responsible for its failure

In 2015, veteran actor Nagarjuna’s younger son Akhil Akkineni made his big screen debut with the highly ambitious ‘Akhil’ and added a new dimension to his life. Directed by VV Vinayak, the film was a fantasy-drama and also had Sayyeshaa in the lead. Released amidst much fanfare, it could not live up to expectations and ended up being a commercial failure. Now, the actor has finally got his career back on track. His second big screen outing ‘Hello’ –which hit screens on December 22—has opened to a decent response at the box office and received favourable reviews from movie buffs. Talking about the positive response to the film, he told a leading news agency that he was relieved by the positive response to ‘Hello’ and added that he was responsible for the debacle of ‘Akhil’. The young star added that he watched ‘Akhil’ over 30 times in order to understand why it did not work.

“I didn’t give up! I watched Akhil over 30 times just to understand where I went wrong. I have made a huge effort to improve and I am glad it has paid off. Doing Akhil was my decision and I am solely responsible for its failure,” he added.

While ‘Hello’ released nearly two years after ‘Akhil’. His next film may release a bit sooner. Talking about this, he said that he will be doing more films now.

“I’d like to do films a bit more often now,” he added.

Well, we wish him good luck and hop that he continues his rise to stardom with his subsequent releases.

In case you did not know, ‘Hello’ was directed by Vikram Kumar and produced by Nagarjuna. In it, Akhil was seen alongside Kalyani Priyadarshan and pulled off several stunts. Interestingly, it hit screens just a day after ‘MCA’. Talking about the clash, Nags had said that he was not worried about it at all as there are enough theatres to accommodate both films.

Five films are releasing this Sankranti. Nani is a popular star and its holiday time. But there are many theatres to accommodate these films and it won’t be a problem,” he had told a leading daily.

As it so happens, prior to its release, Akhil had said that the film would work well at the box office as his dad was involved in it.

“My Dad has been on board for the entire project. He has produced Hello and made sure that everything is just right this time. In hindsight, I feel I should have started my career with a home production. When I have the greatest guide and mentor at home, why not avail his wisdom?,” he had added.

On a related note, this is a busy time for the Akkineni family. Wih ‘Hello’ out in theatres, Akhil will now zero in on his next big film. On the other hand, ‘Chai’ will next be seen in ‘Savyasachi’. The film is a Chandoo Mondeti directorial and also has Madhavan. In it, Chai will be playing the role of a man with a physical disability. Similarly, Nagarjuna is currently shooting for his film with RGV. In the action-packed drama, he will be seen playing the role of a cop and working alongside Myra Sareen.

As far as Samantha Akkineni is concerned, she currently has ‘Irumbu Thirai’  and ‘Rangasthalam’ in her kitty. ‘Irumbu Thirai’ is an action-thriller and has been directed by PS Mithran. In it, she will be seen alongside Vishal and ‘Action King’ Arjun. As far as ’Rangasthalam’ is concerned, it is a romantic-drama and will see her act opposite Ram Charan for the first time ever.
