Anushka Shetty

Last year, the lovely Anushka Shetty became the toast of T-town when she delivered a solid performance in ‘Baahubali 2’ and left fans asking for more. Everything about her act—right from her look to her solid body language– seemed perfect and added a new life to the film. Furthermore, her crackling chemistry with Prabhas created a buzz amongst movie buffs.

With ‘Baahubali 2’ in the rear view, Anushka is currently gearing up for the release of ‘Bhaagamathie’. The film has been directed by G Ashok and features her in a shocking new avatar. During a recent chat with a leading daily, she said that—contrary to perception—‘Bhaagamathie’ is a contemporary tale and is completely different from ‘Arundhati’.

“This is a very contemporary story and has something unique to offer to the audience,” she added.

Besides this, she also spoke about the burning issue of women being paid less than their male counterparts in the industry and said that there was nothing wrong in it. Explaining her logic, she said that heroes are paid more as they have more to lose if a film flops. She went on to add that instead of cribbing about pay disparity, one should write stronger/better roles for women.

“In any profession, one needs to earn it to be paid more. Heroes are paid more because they have a lot to lose. A lot of films ride on their shoulders and I think they deserve better pay scale. Instead of fighting for better pay scale, why not write better stories for women and showcase them in stronger roles,” she added.

Interestingly, Anushka’s take on the issue is quite different from that of actresses like Sonam Kapoor and proves that she is someone who treads her own path.

So, will you be watching ‘Bhaagamathie’ this R-day? Tell us in the space below.

Guys lets not compare anyone . Her words makes sense . When you are listening to the story . you know how much part of the film is your role and hero role in the movie. So it is sensible that payment will be given based on the work , role and time you spent in the movie. One can not expect to give equal pay with hero even heroine appears in a few shots. story writers should change the trend and make the stories which show case hero heroines equally.or Get stories both hero centric and heroine centric stories equally. Sweety words makes sensible. She is not dimplomatic and she spoke fact. story wirters and directors had to set new trnd.

Salman movie despite any heroine makes 100cr … if any herione movie makes 100cr despite any hero then she deserves the equal pay as Salman.. Anushka is intelligent and practical not dumb as Sonam

Darling if your peers don’t view you as an equal where they ATLEAST compensate you monetarily there’s no way in hell there will be enough content to go around for all the girls who are working hard.

Darling, this society is such. No matter how much we fight it’s not gonna change. There are many women centric movies so darling not all peers are same

She actually meant it’s no using fussing over better pay , because it’s society . It’s better actresses work on good stories and earn ur name. Pay should take a back seat.
Very diplomatic answer she doesn’t want to spoil her image. Appreciate it

      I agree.

The pay disparity is there even when looking at women who DO have films riding on them and who DO have the market share. Do you think Deepika Padukone doesn’t deserve to be paid the rate of a hero’s role for Padmavati? Or that Kangana made much less for Queen than an Arjun Kapoor would make for one of his movies? Deepika is the only bankable heroine today that should be earning what her male contemporaries are making.

Better pay for actors doesn’t have be worse quality on the story. They are exclusive things, not dependent on each other.

Better stories need to be written for women, period. It doesn’t have to come at the cost of women making less money.
    That’s a stupid comment.

Wow!! Anushka is not only HUMBLE but sounds SENSIBLE too….Yes, we need better/stronger roles for women…

Great question from Anushka! If women have good roles/stories the pay gap would reduce.

So true. Sonam Kapoor asking for equal pay is stupid. If the whole movie is on your shoulders then ask for equal pay. Someone like Deepika, vidya Balan and Kangana can ask for equal pay. Not fashionistas who only dress up in movies

what a lovely women…pls don’t compare her to tht dumb women sonam kapoor….

      Anonymous

Please it is woman for one person and women for more than one person, since you are referring only to Anushka it should be’ …… a lovely woman’ and ‘ ………dumb woman Sonam Kapoor’.

      PV please post.

She is so wrong. There are superstar actresses like Aishwarya Rai who carry a film all on their own and yet reieve 5% of what some of the male actors receive. Even newer younger actors who don’t really completely carry a film on their own are paid more than Aishwarya Rai. What is that if it’s not gender based pay parity?

      Anonymous

sooo wrong, what is the latest or last movie on earth that “Aishwarya Rai” carried on her shoulders and made minimum 100cr forget abt 100cr, even 80cr…….fyi none!!!
