Last year, the lovely Anushka Shetty became the toast of T-town when she delivered a solid performance in ‘Baahubali 2’ and left fans asking for more. Everything about her act—right from her look to her solid body language– seemed perfect and added a new life to the film. Furthermore, her crackling chemistry with Prabhas created a buzz amongst movie buffs.
With ‘Baahubali 2’ in the rear view, Anushka is currently gearing up for the release of ‘Bhaagamathie’. The film has been directed by G Ashok and features her in a shocking new avatar. During a recent chat with a leading daily, she said that—contrary to perception—‘Bhaagamathie’ is a contemporary tale and is completely different from ‘Arundhati’.
“This is a very contemporary story and has something unique to offer to the audience,” she added.
Besides this, she also spoke about the burning issue of women being paid less than their male counterparts in the industry and said that there was nothing wrong in it. Explaining her logic, she said that heroes are paid more as they have more to lose if a film flops. She went on to add that instead of cribbing about pay disparity, one should write stronger/better roles for women.
“In any profession, one needs to earn it to be paid more. Heroes are paid more because they have a lot to lose. A lot of films ride on their shoulders and I think they deserve better pay scale. Instead of fighting for better pay scale, why not write better stories for women and showcase them in stronger roles,” she added.
Interestingly, Anushka’s take on the issue is quite different from that of actresses like Sonam Kapoor and proves that she is someone who treads her own path.
