Anushka Shetty reveals why she does not dub for her roles

Anushka Shetty is arguably one of the most talented and sought-after names in Telugu cinema today. However, despite being fluent in Telugu, the Lady Superstar has never dubbed her voice in any of her films. Recently, on being asked a question about the same, the actor said that her voice is quite sweet and hence does not gel with the intense characters she often plays on the big screen. She also made it clear that the decision is usually taken by the whole team.

“My voice is sweet and it’s like a child’s voice. It won’t suit my characters, which are mostly loud. If you look at the roles I’ve played recently, even Bhaagamathie, they need heavy voices. My dialogues have also been quite full of anger. So if I lend my voice to them, it will spoil the role. So I’ve never tried it.” She added.

On a related note, this is a terrific time for Anushka. Her latest release Bhaagamathie hit screens on R-day and is doing well at the box office. A G Ashok directorial, it featured her in a brand new avatar and served as strong proof of her abilities as a performer. Talking about it, she had said that the film has a contemporary setting and is not a ghost story.

“A few have misconstrued it as a ghost movie with a reincarnation theme. But it is a contemporary thriller and she is only a fictitious character. I play an IAS officer Sanjana, which is one of the most thought-provoking characters I have ever done. There was plenty of scope for performance, thanks to director Ashok garu who waited for me with the script from 2012,” she had told a leading daily.

At present, Anushka is busy promoting the film and one can expect her to sign a new project in the near future.

I hope she realize she needs to lose weight because she was a pretty girl. Now with that extra weight she looks bad.

As an actress, it should be one’s job to modulate his or her voice accordingly to the character they play. Rani MukherjI and Deepika Padukone were once ridiculed for their voices, because it lacked heft. Now, through their hard work in dubbing, they are praised for the same aspect. I wish Anushka realizes that it’s never too late to try, and that her voice can only add to her performance over someone else.

I get the fact that her soft and sweet voice cannot help her tough characters? But what about her soft characters like Thaandavam, irandam Ulagam, Size Zero?
