Casting couch: Lakshmi Manchu being targeted for keeping mum on Sri Reddy issue

As we all know, actress Sri Reddy is the news since a very long time over her fight on casting couch in the industry. The actress made some comments on the casting couch and sexual exploitation happening in Tollywood. When her fight over the casting couch was paid no heed, last week Sri Reddy went on to strip in front of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce in Hyderabad, which garnered the national and international media’s attention. While many from the industry have spoken up on the issue, many have maintained silence.

Well, actress and producer Lakshmi Manchu, who is also the vice-president of Movie Artistes’ Association, has been targeted on social media for staying quite over the same. Usually, the actress is quite vocal when it comes to speaking up on the issues of women but her silence on Sri Reddy’s issue asks many serious questions.

Lakshmi Manchu recently condemned the rape and murder of the 8-year-old that has shaken the whole country. On the other hand, her stoic silence has raised many questions on social media. While some feel good about how Lakshmi Manchu has condemned the Kathua rape incident, many even asked her to speak out about Sri Reddy’s issue too, as it is an issue happening in her own industry.

A female user on Twitter asked Lakshmi Manchu, “What is the point in tweeting on this issue when you cannot offer a single comment to your colleague from ur own industry? Whether #SriReddy is right or wrong is a secondary issue, but u should have at least said if she is innocent she needs to get justice…is it so difficult?.”

Here’s what another social media user commented:

A day ago, Pawan Kalyan, who was interacting with the media about the Unnao and Kathua rape cases, responded to the allegations of Sri Reddy. Pawan Kalyan adviced that Sri Reddy should approach the police officials and file a complaint against the people who cheated her and exploited her.

Isnt she really close to the Daggubattis? Thats y!

She is not close to them. She has been trying very hard for a very long time to get into their good books though. She is a determined woman and no amount of social media snubbing by Rana Daggubati has deterred her efforts so far. She hardly going to jeopardize her prospects of being called their friend someday, by speaking out now.

Just google and you will see that she and Rana Daggubati were doing a huge public campaign (PR stunt really) about human trafficking of women just 2 days ago. But they didn’t say one word about the exploitation of women in their Industry and by their own family members.

Public itni bhi stupid nahin hai. But apparently the American Embassy of Hyderabad is stupid enough to give their name to this event.
