CV Reddy becomes first Telugu personality to be appointed chairman of Oscar for India’s entry

Eminent producer and director CV Reddy becomes the first ever Telugu filmmaker to be appointed as the chairman of the prestigious Oscar Awards. CV Reddy, popular for his works in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films, will now head the board which will decide India’s entry into the Oscars. According to a report in DC, this is a rare honour for CV Reddy to be appointed as chairman which was previously held by North Indian most of the times.

Reddy has served earlier as a jury member of the National Awards and also has been on the jury board of many international awards. CV Reddy, along with his jury members, will now watch all the films submitted to the board for an Oscars entry. CV Reddy is best known for his debut film Badili in Telugu in 1995 which won the Nandi Award. The popular producer and director has also written two novels – Swarganiki Veedukolu and Vasantha.

 According to a report in TOI, the screening of all the films for an Oscar entry will happen at Hyderabad at the film chamber from September 16 to September 23. The report also mentioned that the Academy had invited 744 jury members in July 2017 which included Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Priyanka Chopra.

The new jury members of the Academy awards headed by CV Reddy will now watch all the films during September 16 and 23 to decide which one will gain an entry to the Oscars. This is a rare feat for Telugu film industry which has been on the rise for the last many years and gaining international popularity.
