They say an empire is built over years and not overnight. Actor Nani is synonymous to this saying! Nani started his career as an RJ in a popular radio station and later moved to films to assist renowned filmmaker Bapu on Radha Gopalam. Nani worked as a clap director for Radha Gopalam and his experience with film-making process began with this. And having worked in a department which works closely with all the other departments, Nani is now well aware of how to go about a film as an actor and a producer as well. Born on February 24th, 1983, Nani’s real name is Naveen Ghanta and is called as Nani by all his friends and family members. The Natural Star continued with that in films too which has now become a popular Telugu household name. On his birthday today, we take a look at Nani’s career which started as an RJ and is now one of the most bankable stars in Telugu cinema today.

Nani made his debut as lead actor with Mohankrishna Indraganti’s Ashta Chamma in 2008 and impressed Telugu audiences very well. The film also starred Swathi and Srinivas Avasarala, his debut too, and is one of the most favourite films of many Telugu movie buffs. Nani then appeared in films like Ride and Bheemili Kabbadi Jattu which were not that great a success. It was the 2011 release, Ala Modalaindi, that changed the path of Nani’s career.  A realistic story-telling and very natural approach towards acting, Ala Modalaindi marked the beginning of a changing phase in Telugu and Nani was gradually climbing the ladder.

Nani in Pilla Zamindaar

The same year saw the release of Pilla Zamindaar, directed G.Ashok, which is one of the most hilarious films in Telugu cinema in the recent times. And with the success of Pilla Zamindaar, things were changing for Nani and his career was heading in the right direction.

Then came films like Yeto Vellipoindi Manasu, Eega and Yevade Subramanyam with Nani in varied roles and eventually the actor was crowned Natural Star. Since Yevade Subramanyam, all of Nani’s films have been hits and the actor hasn’t seen failure for the last 3 years in his career.

Nani in Eega

Nani even tried his hands with production with Raj-DK’s D for Dopidi but the film failed to impress audiences turning out to be a dud. However, Nani’s second production and the latest release in Tollywood, AWE!,  has turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2018 so far. Directed by debutante Prashanth Varma, AWE! is termed as one of the path-breaking films in Telugu cinema thanks to its narration and screenplay.

Nani’s judgement about films, as an actor and as a producer, seem to be impeccable and this seems to be coming from the time he spent in Tollywood as an assistant director to filmmakers like Bapu and Srinu Vytla.

We wish actor Nani a Very Happy Birthday and good luck to his forthcoming projects!
