Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr., named after his grandfather NTR forayed into films at an early age of 19. With many highs and lows in his career, Tarak has seen it all in his almost two-decade long career. The recent years of his career has only been on the rise and post his 2016 release Janatha Garage, Jr NTR has become one of the biggest stars in South Indian cinema. Janatha Garage is one of the few films in Tollywood which is in the 100-crore club and the third in Tollywood. And with Jr NTR’s latest release – Jai Lava Kusa – also receiving blockbuster openings on the first day of release, it certainly is on the path to become one of the biggest grossers in his career.
But what really catches attention in Jai Lava Kusa is Jr NTR’s attempt to don triple roles which he has never done in his career before. And probably very few top stars have attempted and succeeded! With Jai Lava Kusa, Jr NTR enters the elite club of actors in South India who have played triple roles and those films went on to become blockbuster hits. Here’s a quick look at those actors and film.
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (Senior) in Daana Veera Soora Karna:
The legendary actor NTR played all the three roles of Karna, Duryodhana, and Krishna himself which is one of the rare feats in Telugu cinema back then given the technology that was available back then. This Hindu mythological film produced and directed by N. T. Rama Rao by his Ramakrishna Cine Studios banner. The film also starred both his sons – Nandamuri Harikrishna and Nandamuri Balakrishna.
Mega Star Chiranjeevi in Mugguru Monagallu:
Mega Star Chiranjeevi played all the three brothers in this film who get separated when they are very young and eventually meet in a dramatic situation. Chiranjeevi played a cop, a classical dancer and a gangster in Mugguru Monagallu and his portrayal of these roles made him a bigger star than what he already was at that point in time.
Kamal Haasan in Michael Madana Kama Rajan:
This comedy genre flick is rated as one of the best films in Kamal Haasan’s career till date and is often taken as reference for films of this genre. Playing a millionaire, a traditional Tamil Iyer Brahmin and a hooligan, Kamal Haasan became one of the first South Indian actors to have tried his hands at triple roles back then. While the film was directed by Singeetham Srinivas Rao, the story was penned down by Kamal Haasan himself.
While all these films stand as milestone in these stars’ career, speculations are high that Jai Lava Kusa will also scale such heights and will become one of the landmark movies in Jr NTR’s career.
