Mahanati, the biopic on the late actor Savitri, is the most talked about film in South Indian cinema at the present moment. Starring Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha Akkineni and Vijay Deverakonda, Mahanati released today worldwide and has been receiving rave reviews from audiences and critics as well. Directed by Nag Ashwin, Mahanati will show the rise and fall of the iconic actress who is considered as the first female superstar of Telugu cinema. Mahanati had premiere shows in the US and the collections from the first shows of the epic film are tremendous. Mahanati clocked $375,000 from the first shows in the US which is third highest for a Telugu cinema in the American nation. Besides clocking a mindboggling number, Mahanati also stands at second position at the US box office only next to Avengers: Infinity War.
Director Naga Ashwin and his team of technicians have put great effort in recreating the glorious period of Telugu Cinema on silver screen. Mahanati is all slated for worldwide grand release on May 9th. Speaking about Mahanati, director Nag Ashwin had said recently, “It’s a celebration of Savitri’s Life. Mahanati in Telugu (Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil) is about the joy and a celebration of the great actor Savitri who ruled the hearts of millions then, now and forever. As a story teller and makers of the film we want people to appreciate her professional talent and being a beautiful mother and a family person, about her association with people who were part of her life from childhood to her passing away.”
While Keerthy Suresh plays the role of Savitri, Dulquer Salmaan plays the role of Gemini Ganesan. Samantha Akkineni, Naga Chaitanya, Vijay Deverakonda also plays important role in the film along with other celebrated actors from the southern film industry. Dani Sanchez-Lopez cranked the camera for Mahanati while the production design was handles by Shivam Rao. Kotagiri Venkateshwara Rao has handled the editing part of the film.
