It is no secret that Mahanati—which is based on the life of yesteryear actor Savitri—is one of the biggest films in recent times. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the ambitious biopic features young actor Keethy Suresh in the main role and set to hit screens later this month. However, according to its director, Mahanati is likely to miss the March release date. Speaking to Firstpost, he said that the film requires extensive VFX and that is taking more time than expected. He added that as this is a big project, they do not want to take any risks.
“We were supposed to come this month end. But the VFX process is taking more time than expected and we don’t want to rush and compromise on the output. Therefore, this month looks quite tight,” he added.
Interestingly, sometime ago, he had told the same website that Mahanati will have massive sets and will do full justice to Savitri’s stature.
“With massive set pieces, the film will be unlike anything we’ve explored in Indian cinema. There have been countless actresses over the last 80 years in Telugu cinema but none have earned the title of Mahanati, and even today it has solely been reserved for Savitri,” he had added.
Besides Keerthy, the film also features Mollywood star Dulquer Salmaan in a key role. He will be essaying a character modeled on yesteryear icon Gemini Ganesan. A while ago, he had said that he will not look like ‘Kadhal Mannan’ in this one.
“I’m not going to look like him. I can’t, honestly, and I don’t want to wear prosthetic. My approach is simple. I would like to be me in the 1950s and play myself if I was a big movie star. I don’t think I should attempt to play Gemini Ganesan, and the director also agreed. You don’t really have any off-screen footage of him. You don’t know what kind of person he was off screen,” he had told a leading website.
So, are you looking forward to Mahanati? Comments, please!
