In an exciting development, the makers of the eagerly-awaited Savitri biopic AKA Mahanati have confirmed that the film will release on May 9, 2018. It was originally supposed to hit the screens this month, however, it got postponed due to extensive post-production work. Explaining the reason for the delay, Ashwin Nag had recently said that the VFX work is taking time and the team does not want to rush things.
“We were supposed to come this month end. But the VFX process is taking more time than expected and we don’t want to rush and compromise on the output. Therefore, this month looks quite tight,” he had told a leading website.
Mahanati is one of the biggest Telugu films in recent times and features young actor Keerthy Suresh in the titular role. Sometime ago, she had said that this is one of the most challenging roles of her young career.
“She was a person who would give 100 expressions in 10 seconds. The way her bold eyes and her lips express an emotion — it is impractical to replicate her precisely. But I wanted to give my best. I have more than 100 costumes (changes) in this film. Savitri’s appearance also changes with age in the film, so we had to go in for a makeover at each stage,” she had told a leading news agency.
Besides Keerthy, Mahanati also has actor Dulquer Salmaan in the lead and marks his Tollywood debut. DQ will be seen essaying a character based on yesteryear star Gemini Ganesan in this one. A while ago, he had said that he will not look like ‘Kadhal Mannan’ in Mahanati.
“I’m not going to look like him. I can’t, honestly, and I don’t want to wear prosthetic. My approach is simple. I would like to be me in the 1950s and play myself if I was a big movie star,” he had told a leading daily.
