A short while ago, it was reported that Telugu star Mahesh Babu would soon star in ‘Leader 2’—a sequel to ‘Leader’– and give movie buffs a reason to rejoice. As expected, this had created quite a buzz amongst fans and that too for all the right reasons. Now, it seems that such a thing will not be happening. As it so happens, director Sekhar Kammula has clarified that he will not be beginning work on ‘Leader 2’ anytime soon. The director is apparently working on a romantic-entertainer which will go on the floors in 2018. If ‘Leader 2’ is to happen, it will happen only after he wraps up his next.

In case you did not know, Sekhar Kammula is going through a good phase on the professional front these days. His last film ‘Fidaa’ did well at the box office and earned rave reviews along the way. A romantic-drama, it helped Sai Pallavi’ become a household name. The lovely lady essayed the role of a Telangana girl and won hearts thanks to her lovable act. Talking about the success of ‘Fidaa’, Sekhar Kammula had said that he took up the film as he wanted to tell a love story again.

“It’s been a while since I presented a love story. We initially titled this film ‘Musuru’ (drizzle). Fidaa seemed more universal. The game changer was setting a part of the story in Telangana,” he had added.

On a related note, ‘Leader’ was the first film of Rana Daggubati’s career and became popular despite not faring too well at the box office. It goes without saying that fans are bound to have high expectations for a potential sequel.
