Mahanati: Contrary to rumours, Keerthy Suresh and not Samantha was always the first for Savitri’s character

Keerthy Suresh is arguably one of the most popular young stars in the Southen film industry. And, currently she has a host of big projects in her kitty including the highly ambitious ‘Mahanati’. The film has been directed by Nag Ashwin and is based on the life of yesteryear star Savitri. It has created quite a buzz amongst fans courtesy its effective posters and impressive scale. In it, Keerthy will be essaying a character modelled on Savitri while the lovely Samasntha Akkineni will be seen playing the role of a journalist. Recently, the film’s producer had said that Sam was signed on for ‘Mahanati’ even before Keerthy herself. She had also said that the ‘Manam’ star will be seen in a pivotal role here.

“There is not much I can reveal yet, but Sam is the driver behind the wheels when it comes to the film,” she had said.

For some reason, this led to rumours of Sam being the first choice for Savitri’s role. In fact, some reports even claimed that Sam was actually replaced by Keerthy later on. However, according to a leading daily, that was never the case. Keerthy was always the first choice for ‘Mahanati’. Well, we are happy to know that and hope that the film turns out to be a hit.

“I’m not going to look like him. I can’t, honestly, and I don’t want to wear prosthetic. My approach is simple. I would like to be me in the 1950s and play myself if I was a big movie star. I don’t think I should attempt to play Gemini Ganesan, and the director also agreed. You don’t really have any off screen footage of him. You don’t know what kind of person he was off screen,” he had told a leading website.

If all goes as planned, ‘Mahanati’ will hit screens in March 2018.

On a related note, this is a busy time for Sam as well as Keerthy. Sam will soon be seen in ‘Rangasthalam’. The film has been directed by Sukumar and will see her share screen space with ‘Mega Powerstar’ for the first time ever. Sometime ago, a source had revealed that Chiranjeevi feels that this has the makings of a total classic.

“Recently, Chiranjeevi along with Rajamouli and others saw the rushes of the film and were surprised to see that the film has come out beautifully, almost like a classic. He is satisfied with the way the film has shaped up,” the source had added.

Besides ‘Rangasthalam’, she also has ‘Irumbu Thirai’ in her kitty. In it, she will be seen with Vishal.

As far as Keerthy is concerned, she also has ‘Agnyaathavaasi’ in her kitty. A Trivikram Srinivas directorial, it will see her share screen space with Pawan Kalyan for the first time in his career. A short while ago, she had revealed that PK is a terrific person to work with.

“Pawan Kalyan sir seems very calm but off-screen, he cracks a lot of jokes. Trivikram, Anu and our team used to sit and enjoy his humour. It was like one big family and (the team) was fun to be around. PSPK 25 is a project I really enjoyed working on,” she had added.

She had also praised Trivikram and called him a witty person.
