Baahubali 2 is now officially the highest grosser in the history of Indian cinema. Even though Bollywood blockbuster Dangal is inching in closer to the period drama, Baahubali 2 is still leading. The story of the making of this magnum opus started way back in 2012 when director  SS Rajamouli set off with a dream to work on a period film with a huge star cast and a humongous budget. His ideology was combined with his father and eminent writer K. Vijayendra Prasad’s literary expertise. Management wizards Shobu Yarlagada and Prasad Devineni fuelled the project by coming on-board as producers.

The process of making Baahubali began with just the script in hand and one actor confirmed as the lead role which was Prabhas. Sabu Cyril came on-board as the production designer and the research work for the epic gradually started progressing. Thousands of sketches were drawn as references for every element in the film, which includes the design of the swords and the costumes of the soldiers in the war episodes. The principle shoot commenced in the huge Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad in 2013 and few months later came out the first look of Prabhas from film. After the first look was out, Telugu movie-goers new they were in for a treat and this was not just any other period film.

Few months later came the first teaser from Baahubali and it became a mania. The first part of Baahubali released in 2015 and was prodigious. This colossal epic film left the viewers with one big question that they had to live with for almost two years till the second part, Baahubali 2 released in 2017 in April.

By then, Baahubali 2 was the most anticipated film in India and Kattappa had become a focal point for many memes and trolls in India. Post the release, Baahubali 2 was like a storm that took on the box office worldwide. First, it became the first fastest film to earn INR 500 crores in the history Indian cinema. Then it crossed the INR 1000 crore mark in India effortlessly and no competition in no time. These numbers are all worldwide and not just in India. Baahubali 2 is still going strong across the globe and is the focal point for many.
