There can be no denying that 2017 was a terrific year for actor Rana Daggubati. The young man started off the year with the period film ‘The Ghazi Attack’ which did well at the box office while receiving rave reviews along the way. In the Hindi Telugu bilingual, he was seen opposite Taapsee Pannu and delivered a solid performance. Thereafter, he earned rave reviews for his fierce portrayal of the heartless Bhallaldeva in ‘Baahubali 2’. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film opened to a thunderous response at the box office and redefined the tenets of Indian cinema. In the epic-drama, he shared screen space with Prabhas and gave strong proof of his abilities as a performer. A while ago, while talking about working with him, he had said that it was a terrific experience.
“Prabhas is the sweetest and simplest person you will ever meet in life. He is not someone who would have the biggest of aspirations, big things and much hype. He is somebody who just loves movies and he will do anything for movies,” he had told Pinkvilla South in an exclusive interview.
His last release of the year was the commercially successful ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri’. In the Teja-directed political-thriller, he was seen opposite Kajal Aggarwal and delivered a classy performance. Speaking about the film, Rana had said that it had a ‘House of Cards’ feel to it.
“I love the characters in Wolf of Wall Street and House of Cards. The characters in Teja’s film have many shades, including grey,” he had told a leading daily.
Now, there is some more good news for Rana’s fans. According to a leading website, the star is all set to share screen space with his uncle/veteran actor Venkatesh in a web series based on the assassination of former Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi. Confirming the same, a source said that Venky will be playing the role of an IPS officer while Rana will be seen in a special role.
“He is most likely to play IPS officer DR Karthikeyan (who played a key role in cracking the assassination case). Rana’s role is being kept a secret but he will be seen in a pivotal character. The team is planning to rope in some popular actors across the country to make the web series nationally appealing. The shoot will commence early next year. The pre-production work is already going on in full swing,” added the source.
The source also confirmed that it was Rana’s idea to do the story as a web series spread over various seasons.
“Since the story requires more screen time for narration, Ramesh felt it’d make sense to make it into a web series that spans a few seasons. It was Rana’s idea to turn this tale into a web series and it will be called LTTE. While the first season will focus on Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, the subsequent ones will be about the rise of LTTE and its late chief V Prabhakaran,” added the source.
Well, this is some exciting news and is bound to create quite a buzz amongst fans. On a related note, Rana is currently gearing up for the release of ‘1945’. It is a war-drama and will see him play the role of a soldier. Sometime ago, he had told Pinkvilla South that it is quite an important film for him. Besides this, he also has ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’ in his kitty. Sometime ago, he had said that the film explores the relationship between man and the environment.
As far as Venky is concerned, he will next be seen in a film that will be directed by Teja.
