Actor Samantha Akkineni will be seen playing a scribe in Mahanati, the much-awaited biopic on yesteryear legendary actor Savitri. Directed by Nag Ashwin, Mahanati will portray the rise and fall of Savitri in her professional and personal life, introducing us to the many unknown facts about the inspiring superstar. The story of the titular character will be unfolded from Samantha’s perspective in the film and will take us back in time meaning Samantha plays a pivotal role in Mahanati. And to make it more special, Samantha Akkineni will be dubbing for herself in Telugu for the first time for her role in Mahanati. Since her debut in Ye Maaya Chesave, popular singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi Sripada had been lending her voice for Samantha but now looks like Samantha wants to experiment with her voice. Samantha has already dubbed for herself in her last outing in Tamil – Mersal – which starred Vijay in lead role.
The post production works of Mahanati are under way at this present and recently Dulquer Salmaan dubbed for his portions in the film which will be his debut in Telugu. Dulquer Salmaan will be seen playing Gemini Ganesan while the titular role of Savitri will be played by Keerthy Suresh. Director Nag Ashwin seems to be keen on having the actors dub for themselves. Mahanati will tell the story of the life of iconic actor Savitri who was one of the biggest female stars in South Indian cinema in 60s. Produced by Swapna Dutt under the banner Vyjayanthi Movies, Mahanati has a stellar star cast which includes Samantha Akkineni, Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey, Rajendra Prasad, Prakash Raj, Mohan Babu and Bhanu Priya among many others. Mahanati will portray the life of Savitri and will showcase the rise and fall of the yesteryear actor who was married to Gemini Ganesan.
