Popular playback singer Vani Jayaram’s husband Jayaram passed away. According to media reports, he passed away today due to some age-related illness. Post her marriage in the late 1960s, Vani moved to Mumbai with her husband Jayaram to set up her family. Later, Vani returned to Tamil Nadu only to make her career in singing. It was Jayaram who asked Vani to get trained in the Hindustani classical music and got her enrolled under Ustad Abdul Rehman Khan of the Patiala Gharana.
Talking about Vani Jayaram, down South she has sung in every language. Vani Jayaram has also sung for Juhi Chawla for her first Kannada film, Shabana Azmi’s ‘Parinay’, Jaya Bachchan’s debut film, ‘Guddi’, Parveen Babi’s entry film, ‘Dhuen Ki Lakeer’. Earlier this year, like after almost 47 years later, her title track from the hit Malayalam film, ‘Puli Murugan’ was longlisted among the 70 songs to be represented at the Oscars, out of 200 entries.
Our heartfelt condolences to Vani Jayaram and family! May his soul rest in peace.
