Following actor Sri Reddy’s claims about local girls being ‘exploited’ in the Tollywood, the NHRC has issued notices to the Telangana government as well as the I and B ministry regarding the matter. The NHRC has pointed out that while the authorities have booked her for indulging in obscenity, they have not taken action to address the issues raised by her. And, as such, it seems that they are trying to muzzle her voice.
“The Commission is of the opinion that the reported prohibitions imposed upon the actress, barring her to act in the films and stopping others to work with her are violation of her right to livelihood and live a life with dignity,” said the NHRC in a press release.
In case you did not know, a few days ago, Sri Reddy stripped in public and claimed that top producers exploit Telugu girls and never give them any work. She also claimed that her strip protest was the only way to draw attention to the situation.
“They see the (intimate)videos and give no roles. They have even asked for live nude videos from me. That is the extent to which they go to take advantage of women who seek role. They give roles to actresses imported from Mumbai or others places, whereas we local girls are only sexually exploited on the promise of being given roles,” she had said.
Following the protest, she was barred from MAA and also asked to vacate her rented accommodation. However, following the NHRC’s intervention, the ban on her has been lifted.
Sri Reddy has also been in the limelight because of her war of words with actor Rakul Preet. The Spyder star had denied the facing casting couch in her career. And, for some reason, this did not go down well with Sri Reddy who called her a liar.
This scandal has indeed rocked Tollywood and it remains to be seen what happens next.
