Telugu actor Sri Reddy has been all over the news lately and has been making claims about casting couch in the Telugu film industry by naming few top directors, producers and actors. From going Live on social media to sharing screenshots of conversation between her and few artists/directors, Sri Reddy has done it all and grabbed all the attention. The latest activity by Sri Reddy was she stripped her clothes in front of the Telugu Film Chamber in Film Nagar, Hyderabad and made a protest against the casting couch issue in the Telugu film industry. Sri Reddy, in one of her social media posts, has said that she has pictures and videos of many big people as proof of their doings and will soon share that with the world and remove their mask. But, the film fraternity has stayed mum on the issue with only a handful of low-scale actors speaking in favour of Sri Reddy. We take a look at what Sri Reddy says about the casting couch and why she has been slamming the Telugu film industry.

During her initial revelations, Sri Reddy had said that one of the top producer’s son in Telugu had promised her a role in a film and in exchange asked for sexual favours which she agreed to. However, she was not given any work despite repeated contacts, and was instead ignored. The Arvind 2 actor later claimed that a popular director in Telugu who shows women in a very de-glam appearance in all his films has also ‘used’ her for his benefits and is not the good guy he shows off to the world. Movie buffs, fans and media ascertained that it was Fidaa director Sekhar Kammula who Sri Reddy was referring to in one of the Facebook posts.

Sri Reddy later shifted her focus to popular director Boyapati Srinu but this time it was not about any allegations but requesting him to cast female actors of Telugu origin and not to import anyone from other states. After her episode about Boyapati Srinu, Sri Reddy faced a huge backlash from fans of many top stars in Telugu and reacting to that, she posted few messages and said that she respects all the stars in the industry. And everyone is humble and respectful to women in the industry!

And in another revelation, Sri Reddy said that popular singer and Indian Idol winner Sriram Chandra had also harassed her over text messages and even shared the screen shots of the conversations with him. But there was no reaction from any quarters of the Telugu film industry.

And the latest Sri Reddy decided to do was something which has shocked the whole nation and popular director Ram Gopal Varma even said that Sri Reddy has become a celebrity now. Sri Reddy decided to protest in front of the Telugu Film Chamber in Hyderabad by striping her clothes to show her helpless situation. While the local media covered the developments by the hour, Sri Reddy had become a trending topic in the country and the situation has now become a burning issue in Tollywood.

Sri Reddy demands that she be given justice and wants all those filmmakers to give her all the work promised to her by, cast Telugu origin female actors also as the lead actors and membership in the Telugu film chamber. This could be a not-so-soon-ending saga and looks like the news is here to stay to keep the Tollywood industry on its toes.

Irrespective of whether what she did was right or wrong i.e. the “favors” she rendered thinking she would get offers back, it’s DISGUSTING that noone in the Telugu industry is even bothered about this or paying any attention to this. As much as we love to criticize the West and “Western” influence, they are miles ahead…at least there people took notice of such harassment going on…but here the industry will continue to be shady, misogynistic, nepotistic, and exploitative. Hindi industry is even worse.
