As we all know, noted actress Sridevi was the original choice to play the role of Sivagami in SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’. However, she turned down the offer for reasons best known to her. Following this, the makers approached Ramya Krishnan who gave the nod to the highly ambitious project.
As it so happens, both parts of the ‘Baahubali’ saga emerged runaway hits at the ticket window. Moreover, Ramya received rave reviews for her powerful performance.
During a recently promotional event for ‘MOM’, Sridevi was about her reason for turning down Rajamouli’s film. Responding to the query, she said that there is no point of talking about her decision as it is a thing of the past.
“Another actor played that role and both versions of the films were released and became a hit. Now, what’s the point in talking about it?” she added.
In other words, she politely refused to give any explanation for her decision.
For the uninitiated, ‘Baahubali 2’ hit screens this April and emerged a big hit at the ticket window. Touted to be an epic-drama, it revolved around the rivalry between two brothers over an ancient kingdom. Its cast was headlined by Prabhas, Anushka Shetty and Rana.
On a related note, ‘MOM’ is touted to be a thriller and has been produced by Boney Kapoor. Besides Sridevi, it features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna in the lead. Directed by Ravi Udyawar, it will hit screens next month. This will be Sridevi’s first release in nearly two years. She was last seen in ‘Puli’.
