While the family of Sridevi is awaiting the mortal remains of the superstar to arrive back in Mumbai, there are many theories doing rounds regarding her demise. The post mortem report says that Sridevi passed away due to accidental drowning while the initial reports were saying that she had a cardiac arrest. This contradicting version has initiated speculations amongst fans and media house regarding her death and new theories are built, unnecessarily. While all this is happening, a die-hard fan of Sridevi, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma writes an open letter to fans of the actress revealing few sensational things he knew about Sridevi. From talking about her financial situation to her mother losing her mental balance, Ram Gopal Varma has revealed a lot of things.

I debated with myself whether I should put this out because of some names mentioned but i strongly felt SRIDEVI belongs to her fans more than anyone else and they deserve to know the truth
MY LOVE LETTER TO SRIDEVI’S FANS
—Ram Gopal Varma
YES like millions of you,I too believed that she was the most beautiful and desirable woman ever and we all know that she was the biggest super star of the country and ruled the silver screen as a main heroine for more than 20 years
But that’s just a part of the story. However shocked and sad I feel about Sridevi’s death, it’s finally once again a rude reminder about how unpredictable, cruel, fragile and mysterious that both life and death are.
After her death ,more than you all there is definitely much more for me to say than what most people are saying now about, how beautiful she was, what a great actress she was, how her death affected them, ” RIP”s etc etc
That’s because I had an opportunity to be close to her in the course of my two Films with her Kshanakshanam and Govinda Govinda. Sridevi’s life is a classic case of how a celebrity’s persons actual life is completely different from how the rest of the outside world perceives it.
For many, Sridevi’s life was perfect . Beautiful face, great talent, seemingly stable family with two beautiful daughters. From outside everything looked so enviable and desirable… But was Sridevi a very happy person and did she lead a very happy life?
I know her life from the time I met her . I saw with my own eyes how her life was like a bird in the sky till her father’s death and then became like a bird in a cage due to her overprotective mother
In those days actors used to be only paid in mostly black money and due to fear of tax raids her father used to trust friends and relatives and everyone of them betrayed her the moment her father died. Coupled with this the ignorant mother made many wrong investments in litigated properties and all those mistakes combined made her almost penny less by the time Boney came into her life
He himself was in huge debts and all he could afford was to give her a shoulder to cry on
Her mother became a mental patient because of a wrong surgery on her brain in USA and somewhere along the way her younger sister Srilatha eloped and got married to their neighbours son. The mother before dying put all properties in sridevis name but her sister put a case on Sridevi claiming that her mother was insane and not in her senses when she signed the will
So in effect the woman desired by millions in the world was all alone and almost penny less in the world except for one Boney
Boney ‘s mother portrayed her as a home breaker and publically punched her in the stomach in a five star hotel lobby for what she did to Boney’s first wife Mona
In this entire period except for the short glimmer of English vinglish Sridevi has been pretty much an extremely unhappy woman. The uncertainty of the future, the ugly turns and twists in her private life left deep scars in the super stars sensitive mind and there after she was never at peace.
She went through so much in her life and due to her early career entry as a child artiste, life never gave her time to grow up at a normal pace. More than the external peace, her internal mental state was of a high degree of concern and this forced her to look at her own self .
She was the most beautiful woman for so many people. But did she think she was beautiful ? Yes she did ,but every actresses nightmare is age and she was no exception. For years she was doing ocassional cosmetic surgeries the effects of which can be clearly seen
She always came across as a little uptight but that’s because she built a psychological wall around her as she was scared of anybody to really see what’s going on within her. She was panicky about anybody knowing what her insecurities were.
Not because of her fault, but because she was thrust with fame from a very young age it never gave her a chance to be independant and be what she could really be and what she really wanted to be
She had to put on the make up and be somebody else not just infront of the camera, but also to put a psychological make up to hide her real self behind the camera.
She was being constantly directed by the motives of her parents, her relatives, her husband and to an extent even her own children .. She was scared whether her daughters would be accepted or not like most star parents do
Sridevi is actually a child trapped in a woman’s body ..she is naive as a person, but suspicious because of her bitter experiences which is not a very good combination . Keeping the speculations on her death aside I generally don’t say ” Rest In Peace” after people die, but in her case I want to really say this because I very strongly believe that she would finally and truly rest in peace now for the first time in her life because she died
From my personal experience with her, the only time I ever saw her in peace was in front of the camera that too only between Action and Cut ..That’s because she could cut off the harsh reality and escape into her own fantasy world
That’s why now I am sure she will be at peace forever because she’s finally far far away from what gave her and was giving her so much pain
RIP Sridevi, but I assure u that the world won’t rest in peace for doing this to you
We the fans and your near ones have given you only suffering by making you slog in every which way ever since you were a child but you gave us only joy and happiness. Yes it’s not a fair deal but it’s too late to do anything now .
I now have visions of you flying like a free bird across heavenly land scapes with true peace and happiness in your eyes.
I don’t believe in reincarnation but I truly want to believe in it now because we fans in our next birth deserve to experience you once again and this time we will try our best to make amendments and make ourselves worthy enough to deserve you
Please give us that one chance Sridevi because we all truly love you
I can go on writing like this but I can’t stop my tears any more… RGV.

This may speculate a lot of things around the demise of Sridevi besides the ongoing theories in media and general public.

Boney truly loved her and Sri knew it. She chose him over other rich men. That was the best decision she ever made. He was devoted to her till the end.

    Nice read.

Sad. Starting out as a child star and being the bread winner of your family can really mess with a child’s head. And then financial disputes between family and betrayal, she’s gone through a lot. It’s great that after everything she went through she was able to find peace with her own little family . Boney and Sridevi were happy together for decades, proves that they were meant to be together.

Looks like RGV Is bitter that she chose Boney. Think about it. Boney is no Adonis neither is he an extremely successful man. She could have had anyone from amongst her heroes or top businessmen. He was at the right pace at the right time. He had her at her most vulnerable point in life when she lost both parents and her only family a.k.a her sister sued her. It was great of her to stick to that commitment and honor him the way she did. She seems to someone who thinks through her heart versus heroines of today like Aishwarya, Asin or Anushka who made a very business like decision when they married. She was a muse to many and Boney was able to make her his wife. So after all these years to avenge that he writes this crappy article when she is no more to defend herself. This man is despicable.

Where is her sister srithala that she was suppose to meet in Dubai? She also needs to be questioned

Oh dear, this is so sad! does this mean it could have been a suicide? Why didn’t anyone help her?!

Why does RGV need to pen an open letter. Sri was never an open book so he just opened the cover and started reading between the lines. If he was a true friend, he would have kept mum. He is an opportunist.

    Anonymous

    Everything he said is believable

He feeds on the living and he feeds on the dead! This man is morally bankrupt.

I do not like RGV and I think he is crazy and this is not a time for all this shit but whatever he has written here is true to some extent, Sri was never happy, she was always guarded and yes she was bankrupt at one point, her equation with her parents was really bad, she never got along with her sister, and yes she was a troubled woman when she was young. One could see her interviews and know she was never confident, being a super star, she had no such qualities as deep down she was a unhappy persona, I am sure Boney tried to give her everything, but still she never looked happy to me, I am sure after EV, she started to look more confident and I am sure she was very happy for her daughter’s entry in the movies, and she was looking forward to it. Anyway no point in talking about it, not sure why RGV published this now, not needed. RIp Sridevi.. Hopefully her daughters can achieve lot of success..

He hasn’t written anything that wasn’t known. He’s just put it all together. She was a childish, immature woman because she never grew up. She tied a Rakhi on her husband to make a show in front of Mona. Seriously she was immature but that was just the cards life dealt her. She was in essence lonely that’s why she held her daughters so close, they were all that were hers.

This guy is mental. He hasn’t interacted with her for years. He’s the last person we should listen to.

Why to do so,?! If she really was his friend n as he say he knows that much better have kept her life n secrets for your self why to bring it all out …i guess fans should pray for her give her credit for het entertaining efforts for her great talent for being brillant on screen…her life is her own she lived all that evey humain under go that ups n downs…but as freind i d stand by meri dost n celebrate her memory n success with her fans n protect her secrets n privecy!

At least both daughters got mother and father’s love(as a family) for initial 20 years of their lives …. love which Anshula and Arjun craved for till date. Nobody’s angel here

      True.

Thanks RGV for sharing u’r experience with Sridevi…

If he knows her so well- then why the wrong information. It was not Boney’s mother who punched her- it was Mona Kapoors mother.

    Anonymous

I don’t know her personally but I know for the fact emotional well being is most important….so relate to what he RGV said

Even though I don’t like him, I must agree that whatever he wrote is true.

He knws sridevi well. He was her huge fan

Instead of celebrating what great movies she was part of this article just makes a joke out of all of that. Whose life is free of problems? The only controversy that surrounds her life is that she married Boney Kapoor.

Let’s celebrate her for the great artist she was and cherish her beauty and talent and not get into unwanted speculations as to why what her life would have been like. She looked happy enough to me and that is enough to know.

    Anonymous

When was the last time RGV interacted with her, for him to make such conclusions. It is a an overly emotional article. She couldve made peace with her past and she did have a loving husband and children. Pictures of their holidays are a testament to happy times spent with family. Women are strong and we are generally able to overcome immense pain and move on. She looked content with life recently judging from all the pictures that were posted on social media of her dancing at the family wedding and generally enjoying herself. Don’t make up issues where theres’s none. It’s an insult to her family that she was in pain and they either contributed to it or did nothing to help her!!

It was Mona’s mom not Boney’s. Search Google and you can find it in old articles. RVG should have checked the fact before publishing it to public platform. From an old article: “Mona braved the aftermath of the fallout with sheer determination and grace, it was Arjun’s maternal grandmother Sati who did not take it lying down. If reports are to be believed, Sati not just dragged Boney to the court, she also tried to punch pregnant Sridevi in her stomach in a fit of rage. Sridevi was expecting her first child- Jhanvi Kapoor, with Boney, at that time. According to eye-witnesses, this happened on a New Year’s Eve when Boney was enjoying a cup of coffee with Sridevi in a hotel in Mumbai. Mona’s mother spotted them and attacked them with all her might. It was very hard for her to see the injustice happening with her daughter Mona.’

Only one thing I agree that is she wasn’t aging normally, her face always looked devastated and broken. But I am not sure whether it’s because of mental state or cosmetic surgeries!

RGV can shut up now..SRK,Amitabh all Great Personalities who know her are sad and Pray for their family..This guy sitting and writing nonsense as if he is the only one who knows everything..Tomm he will make a movie also..Sad..U rest in peace RGV..

This man seems crazy!! He worked with her many many years ago and he wasn’t even close to her. Very badly written
Thank you but No thank you

Sridevi felt secure and liked the idea of being taken care of, since her life was run by her mother before and boney kapoor gave her the same sense of security. He literally worshipped her. He definitely is an indulgent husband and father people are jealous that she married him. Motherhood helped Sridevi gain more confidence to speak in public and the success of English vinglish added a lot to her self esteem specially the movie was a near reflection of her life. May she rest in peace and I hope people like RGV also find peace by the end of their life.

Boneys mother punched her in the stomach for what she did to his first wife? Is she insane ? Is it Sri’s fault or her son’s fault for being adulterous??? Why society loves to blame a woman esp India is beyond me!!!

      Anonymous

He is wrong!! Mona Kapoors mother(Sattie Shourie, I think her name was) got into a spat with her and the spat turned physical and Boney, the rat, broke it up then and took Sridevi away.. Its all very weird, but the only innocent person here is Mona Kapoor…

        Anonymous

Very True. but look at this no hoopla when Mona died.

    Anonymous

The thing is that apparently it was not Boney’s mother who tried to attack her in the hotel but Mona Kapoor’s, Arjun and Anshula’s grandmother Sattee.

I feel like RGV has his own severe mental health issues going on, and while they definitely could not simply negate everything he is saying – his position must be taken into account. I actually feel sad thinking about him because his body of work into the early 2000s was so distinctive and unique stylistically in Hindi cinema. Now he is often reduced to a troll and sensationalist.

    Anonymous

oh please. She dies, thats sad. But Cut the drama. If she didn’t have money how did she pay the plastic surgeons from time to time?! Noone leads an easy life. Everyone has their problems.

      Anonymous

Um do you know how to read? She was able to afford the surgeries AFTER she married Boney

i dont like RGV and normally don’t pay much heed to his musings.. this however has a bitterness to it that only truth can. I do believe however that in recent times after English Vinglish she had found her peace with life and was beginning to enjoy her journey. So sad that one freak accident, and just like that , she’s gone. RIPforever

Every human undergoes some kind of struggle, ordeal to chase their dreams.. Nothing is provided on the platter… Hope her fans stop equating her to goddess…

      Anonymous

Why dear?? Why should we stop equating her to a goddess??… Why you want to tell others what they should think or feel… You are free to be indifferent..nobody cares what you don’t feel.. Be happy in your own world…..For me, she will always be a Screen Goddess….

    Anonymous

I am happy that RGV mentioned some inner details which we never knew…. I doubt her parents sent her to school because she was full time working in three shifts…. Thats why Sridevi never gave interviews alone because she was never confident of herself… A formal education up-to at-least 10th Std will give a lot of confidence to face questions from reporters and media…

But,I doubt Sridevi was penniless,,,She has abundant of wealth in chennai as well as Mumbai.. Otherwise, how come she and her daughters are able to maintain their high lifestyles.. All those designer dresses, bags, cosmetic surgeries etc.. Boney hasn’t produced much films recently and the house was run basically on Sridevi’s money..

Also among all nepo-kids,it was only her daughter who is getting a big launch… Other star kids are in waiting……

The amount of plastic surgeries she has undergone shows she was so insecure or maybe she wanted to compete with the younger ones… Name any cosmetic procedure, she has done that all… Even Breast enhancement surgery at age 50,what was the need? Is she going to wear a bikini in the movies? I can understand younger actresses’s insecurities…

I never liked Sridevi’s acting as she acted like a kid in movies … That voice like that of kid was irritating.. I wished, she acted as per her age in the movies… And all those movies which her fans mention that she gave excellent performances, were average at the best… Every media site has posted atleast 10 articles of Sridevi and also named her the first female superstar.. Has media’s memory got erased? There were lot of superstars(female) like suraiyya,Nargis,Madhubala etc who were paid much more than their male counterparts.. Even in Tamil and Telugu cinema there were lots of female superstars before Sri… eg: Jayalalitha,Savitri,Subbulakshmi etc…

I wish her peace in heaven not that because I am her fan,but as a human being… I dont know what her insecurities were, but I guess, even ordinary humans undergo a great deal of ordeal to even run their day to day life ,though their lives aren’t as glamorous as hers… So I wish all Sridevi fans stop equating her to goddess. I can understand the sentiments of fans, but some of the sentiments are unreasonable as per me…

    Anonymous

well put together. She does sound traumatised with a weak voice in her interviews.

    Anonymous

It seems inaccurate in parts atleast for instance, It was Sattee Shourie, Mona Kapoor’s mother who had assaulted Sridevi and not Boney’s mother certainly. Also, Sridevi could not be penniless as she had made a lot of money in her prime, certainly they could not have lost all of that money. If it was not for her money, then how she maintained her expensive lifestyle for certainly Boney Kapoor did not have that kind of money to spend.

    Anonymous

Sridevi a victim? I don’t think so. Maybe as a kid but as an adult I highly doubt it. I saw a woman who was seemed high maintenance and very vain. As for troubles and insecurities, we all have them. She’s lucky she has money to do all kind of plastic surgery to fix her insecurities. Most of us don’t.

      Anonymous

yeah,,,, she has undergone lots of cosmetic surgeries including breast enhancement at 50… Wondered where that money cam from? Even her daughters have undergone cosmetic surgeries……… Sridevi certainly had great amount of money to maintain those lavish lifestyle which was frequently captured by media and posted on gossip sites..

        Anonymous

I wondered myself. Both her and her daughters were always dressed like they just came out of a fashion show meanwhile Sridevi could care less what her husband looks like. He always looked like he just rolled out of bed. And this guy says that the husband used Sridevi? I think it’s the other way around and if he did it’s probably because her and the 2 daughters spent money like it’s going out of style. I feel more sorry for the other kids. I hope there is money left for them.

    Anonymous

what he writes is true…but i’m not too sure that it was necessary for him to publish. i know sridevi wouldn’t have appreciated it. she was intensely private for a reason, that should’ve been respected.

      Anonymous

Her life was on public platform, it comes with responsibility. A lot of people looked up to her as a role model. When people do things and get away with it, other people want to copy. So many young girls are going for plastic surgery and living harmful lives without considering the consequences.
So it is necessary for some things to be pointed out and reasons for actions given so people know how fragile life is. Why hide things when you can set so many people free.

Wow what a great letter from fan point of view.

I don’t like RGV and so don’t want to believe it but I also know that most of what he has written is true. It gives me a lot of pain to even think of what she had to endure in her 50 years of screen life.

True. I share ur sentiments. Not a fan of RGV but definitely of Sridevi. The letter totally makes sense and I feel more sad.

This is the truth and life of most celebrities. Once you attain fame, you don’t know how to handle it or either people around you take advantage of you. So many celebs are insecure and constantly go under the knife, they take loans to lead a life of style, fashion and high end designer shopping. They don’t have many true friends and lead insecure and worried lives. I love Sridevi but all I am saying is that celebs pay a high price for the fame they get. Very few can handle success and most of them start becoming insecure that they will lose success and keep running after it. Look at how Katrina and Anushka got their faces changed. Look at how Kangana has become a psycho. Look at how Kareena, Karisma, Arora sisters, Sonam and Swara are craving for their two minutes fame each day. Look at how Khans and Amitabh are insecure in their own way and cannot tolerate when someone else’s films do well. Look at how many celebs die a sad death due to loans or failures in career or personal lives. Sad sad lives of the rich, famous and successful. Middle class people are more better off than extremely successful people. They go through too much pressure of trying to hide black money or trying to find ways to evade tax, too many ways of making more money, fast money and putting up a false facade. Not saying that middle class people are saints or don’t go through tough phases but in general we have seen the very successful also go through the very lows and sorrows of life too early
