During a recent chat with a leading daily, director SS Rajamouli said that he regrets talking about the Sridevi-Baahubali issue in public. He went on to add that he has tremendous respect for the ‘Last Empress’ and considers her to be the flag-bearer for Southern Cinema in Mumbai.
“One thing is for sure, I shouldn’t have discussed the details on a public platform. That’s a mistake. And I regret it. I have huge respect for Srideviji as a flag-bearer of the southern film industries in Mumbai for many years. I wish her all the best,” he added.
In case you did not know, Sridevi was originally offered the role of Sivagami in Baahubali. However, she turned it down and the role went to Ramya Krishnan. Some time ago, Rajamouli had said he was ‘lucky’ that she refused to be a part of his magnum opus. These comments did not go down too well with the actress. A few days ago, she told a Telugu channel that was deeply hurt by the filmmaker’s comments. Moreover, she lashed out at reports of her demanding Rs 10 crores from the makers of ‘Baahubali’.
“There are rumours that I asked about Rs 10 crore for the role, including an entire floor in a hotel and 10 flight tickets etc. I have been in the industry for about 50 years and acted in more than 300 films. Do you think I could have accomplished all of this by making such demands?” she had added.
It will be worth watching if she reacts to SS Rajamouli’s latest comments.
