As the release fever grips, excitement around the biopic on legendary actor Savitri titled Mahanati is going up by the hour and fans are eager to watch the film on the big screens. Slated to be released tomorrow, May 9th, 2018, Mahanati will be releasing worldwide and will be one of the most watched out for films in South Indian cinema since it is the life story of the iconic superstar Savitri. Directed by Nag Ashwin, Mahanati has Keerthy Suresh playing the titular role while Dulquer Salmaan will be seen playing her husband and actor Gemini Ganesan. Mahanati also stars Samantha Akkineni and Vijay Deverakonda and will be seen playing fictional characters. Besides these four top stars, the cast of Mahanati includes few heavy names who would be seen portraying important roles.
Director Krish, aka Radhakrishna Jagarlamudi, will be seen playing the role of KV Reddy who directed the magnanimous epic film Maya Bazaar in 1950s. Maya Bazaar is one of the iconic films in Telugu cinema and is considered as one of the cult classics in Tollywood even today. Since Mahanati will have a scene involving Maya Bazaar, the makers have roped in Krish to play the role of director KV Reddy in the film.
Mahanati will also have visuals of most celebrated actor SV Ranga Rao who is considered as a role model by many young gen actors. Another veteran actor, Mohan Babu, will be seen portraying SV Ranga Rao in Mahanati and will be seen playing the famous Ghatotkacha role which was portrayed by SVR in the original. This will be quite a sight!
Another veteran actor, Rajendra Prasad, will be seen playing an important role in the film – Savitri’s uncle KV Chowdary – who took up the responsibility of raising Savitri from childhood. It is being said that Rajendra Prasad was the only choice to play this role since he suited the best based on the research done by the team of Mahanati.
Actor and director Srinivas Avasarala would be seen playing LV Prasad, the doyen of Telugu cinema, who was one of the pioneers to put Telugu cinema at national level. Avasarala would be seen enacting few scenes between LV Prasad and Savitri which actually changed the life of the iconic actress.
One may wonder how one would not cast Prakash Raj in such an epic film! The makers won’t disappoint you here. Prakash Raj would be seen playing Aluri Chakrapani who owned one of the biggest studios in South Indian cinema – Vijay Vauhini Studios – back then. Chakrapani played an important role in shaping up Savitri’s career back then and was also considered to be an encouraging personality in the industry back then.
